I had a Facebook account a while back, I "deactivated" it since I can't help but think it is either for student types (the annoying sort who wear Peruvian style hats or try to dress/look like Surfers) or single, cat loving people.

Or is it the best communication tool of recent times? The new way of keeping in touch?

I keep having people telling me I should open my account again, but I'm not so sure.

So as per the title, Sad or brilliant?

Neither sad nor brilliant.
It's a bit of a laugh and can be good to find out what happened to folk you haven't seen in years.

I'm with The Burg.

You don't have to take it too seriously and I've re-acquainted myself with old uni pals I've not seen for years. The banter we have is actually quite good fun, not serious and unpressured. It's actually quite nice to dip in and out and not feel like you are stuck on a night out and run out of conversation after 20 mins.

So - do it if you want otherwise don't. But it's here, Social Networking will not be going away, so adopt, adapt or live in the past.

Frankly, I don't care..

I think it's a bit of a sad waste of time, but can't help keep using it, i do think we'd all be better off and much less voyeuristic about all the random old friends and probably healthier without...

It's just so damn addictive!

has the potential to be brilliant, if anyone actually used the fecker!

Out of a pool of 8 close mates only two use the bloody thing on anything more than a quarterly basis, some dont even use it at all.

I gave it a go a few weeks back. isnt working out.

According to my brother its "soooo 2007" so I think it might be past its prime, Twitter is supposed to be the next "big thing" but none of my 30-somthing mates are on that, neither are the couple of "junior" mates I have in thier late teens or early twenties.... not exactly sure who uses it.

Will be sticking to phone, texts and the odd email.

I have hundreds of friends that use it daily. TBH it's a nosey tool which is why most people keep coming back. It can be quite sad - at least the people that update it to let everyone know they're eating marmite on toast are likely to be sad individuals.

I look now and again as it's an easy way of keeping in touch with some of the less "friend" type of friends for starters....

Those friends who really count though I find telephone and visiting is more the norm than facebook.

A wonderful source of amusement.

A year ago my girlfriend of 8 years cheated on me, we split, haven't spoken since. Yesterday I got a message from a mate on facebook telling me there's posts on her wall saying she's knocked up. Cue hiliarity.

I have an account, but its not in my name. So people cannot find me by tying my name but if I want to find my "friends" I can. I have deleted my myspace and bebo account due to a mental ex. shoot

+1, very user friendly.

Facebook is very hard to navigate around and about.

I find that some Facebook groups can be good.
There are loads on every topic and if you find one that is active it can add quite a lot.
Ex emploees of X groups are also extremely useful.
It is really easy to start one for any issue that takes your fancy.

You can RSS your blog and your Twitter straight to your Facebook account, so you can hit multiple audiences in one go. From your mobile phone if you want!
