Any teachers on here?
Discussion
Evening all.
My Missus has accepted (but not signed a contract) on a teaching job local to us (secondary school teacher).
The process was an interview and then offer / accept on the same day. Basically after the interview you sit aorund and wait to get offered or declined. You have to accept there and then (I'm sure if your a teacher you actually already know this).
She has however been offered a position at her existing school (where she is finishing her GTP training). She would much prefer this position rather than the one she was offered at the first school, but when she accepted the first one, was not aware this position would becoming avaliable.
In the corporate world that I live in, you would almost without question, go with whatever job you wanted / paid most / suited you, regardless of which was offered first.
My question is that it appears in the teaching world that this is quite a 'no no' and you get black marked by the local authority / school / head teachers.
Can anyone with experience shed any light on this? What should she do? Is accepting the second position (offered second, but what she actually would prefer) the right or wrong thing to do?
Thanking you muchly.

We've been in a similar situation. Its a bizarre situation ( as alot in teaching is!!) and yes you are expected to make a binding decision there and then with no opportunity to weigh up your options or wait for the outcome of other interviews - you are quite likely to be going for more than one position after all.
Long and short appears to be yes she won't be popular but it is very easy to end up putting yourself last! Speak to her current head and say she would rather stay. Then stay and keep your head down and try not to move jobs again anytime soon.
Why did her current head not offer her a job first - at the very it would have saved the school having to pay for supply whilst she was out at the interview.

My Missus is a teacher and the situation down here is the same.
If your better half intends to stay where she is for any length of time I wouldn't worry about it. Tell her to go for the position she wants.
