Chaps (and ladies, where appropriate)

I’d like some recommendations on books to buy to take on my upcoming holiday to South Africa.

I normally only read non-fiction and would be particularly interested in any recommendations for books summarising the origins of the conflict in Northern Ireland, UK Politics in the 20th Century and sceptic’s analysis of climate change. Given my background I’m also interested in books about mathematics / science and economics.

Who says Actuary’s aren’t fun…………………

Cheers

Amazon these:

Survival of the Sickest: The Surprising Connections Between Disease and Longevity by Sharon Moalem and Jonathan Prince

Bad Science by Ben Goldacre

The first is very good, the second is good if not a medical professional. Both are about disease and treatments thereof (I am a doctor, so biased!).

Been re-reading the old Bond books recently, after reading the new one late last year.

I enjoy them.

Just about to get to this in my book pile.

Finished "Apache" which is the account of the Apache rescue in Afghanistan and also another one about the Harrier Sqdn in Afghanistan. Both were brilliant!

You could also get Sniper One which is also about Afghanistan (can you see a theme yet????)

A good climate change book is The Deniers which I am reading at the moment.

I think the harrier one is joint strike fighter, or something like that. I have read both Apache and sniper books, very good. Do you follow me round the bookshops buying everything I do lol!

Also, if you interested, 8 lives down (?) is about a bomb disposal expert in Iraq.

That's the one!!! Damn, spotted..... hehe I tend to blitz the bookshops every few months. Was considering getting an ebook reader but there are so many different formats which no one reader supports and they are also the same price as normal books which I object to.
