Plotloss, I see your point, but if everybody who took a couple of days off had to see a quack then all quacks would do is fill in sick notes. This is not a great use of their time is it.
If you are on your notice period then tell them to shove it, bye the time they have gone through a full on disaplinery procedure you'll be long gone.

My wife has to produce a sick note even if she has one day off.
I think this is a requirement of her headteacher, rather than the LEA. As teachers get 6 months full pay sick leave, certain members of staff have taken it as a right to additional time off as and when it suited them.
Where I work there is no right to sick pay, it is at the discretion of the boss.

But then, knowing the current "why should I have to go to work" culture in England at the moment it's probably...... a free flat + a flatscreen television

You could just give your GP a call and have a telephone consultation if work is being a pain, I do this regulary but then I have been sick for over a year.
Yes, this may be the easiest way. To be quite honest with you, part of me wants to just stay off and stick two fingers up to them for being awkward with me.The way they treated me since I handed in my notice wasn't exactly nice.
The fact is, its a 3 hour car journey to work and back and it's very uncomfortable on my back.
I can see why they wouldnt believe me.
