How do I "raffle" my house?
Discussion
So I've had a Villa in Florida for 5 years now, and want shot of it. Its on the Market over there, and although we have had some interest, we havent had any offers. 5 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms, private pool and Jacuzzi, etc..
I read about the guy over here who offered his house as a prize in a raffle. Did it go ahead?
And how would I go about doing the same for my place in the US?
Serious question, btw.
Cheers

yes a bloke done it over here and IIRC it didnt make much money, his tickets were something like £10 each and he only sold a few thousand (think it was due to bad advertising).
You could do the same but its risky, just have to make sure its well advertised....could do it like Al Melling has done his Wildcat, put a limit on min number of tickets. only problem there is that people might not believe you when in a years time the raffle still isnt drawn.

firstly you can't simply 'raffle ' it in the traditional sense... you need some game involved like spot the ball etc otherwise you go against certain gambling laws
secondly it has been done and the chances of makeing money without serious amounts of investment on advertise is low
how about do a baffoon auction ?

I would think that a house "sale" in Florida might be a problem with gambling law etc. You would have to check I guess.
Would like to hear how you get on if you go ahead.
Thanks Mate, I'll keep you updated if we do go down this route.Link

The Wilshaw family. Draw is today I believe. After months of arguing with the gambling commission, barristers and so on. There's a topic about it somewhere, but I've no idea what forum it would be in now.Hoppy2008 said:

They drew numbers out of a bag - no different from the National Lottery that the Government loves so much. So what's the difference between a raffle and a lottery?
None.A lottery is a game of chance with no element of skill, and you need a licence to run one (like Camelot) - otherwise they are ILLEGAL.
The dispute here was that their competition had a question which they said was an element of skill, and therefore not a lottery, and therefore legal. The Gambling Commission felt that the question was too easy and therefore there was no element of skill, and therefore that the draw was a lottery and therefore illegal.
That's why chocolate competitions have a "tie breaker...."

But if the competition entrants are in the UK, surely its not breaking any US rules?
Or am I missing something?
