"I think", therefore "it is"
Discussion
Our common enemy on radio these days (among other things) is repetition. Same songs, same news pieces, same gags etc
So, many of us choose to shun commerial(ised) radio altogether and listen to Radio4. Excellent range of subject matter and journalism and can really only be pulled up in my opinion for opening a current affairs can of worms between two guest commentators and then shoving the lid on it again after 30 seconds to get on with another story, just as things were getting interesting.
But there is another rather disturbing trend on the R4. The increasingly despicable phrase "I think", particularly when the commentator has unshakeable belief that by pre-facing their opinion with "I think", it suddenly gathers unquestionable crediblity. The faux earnest is excruciating.
Its I think this and I think that, sometimes 3 or 4 times in the same sentence. By 4pm, the LAST thing you want to hear again is what someone thinks!
What about "in my opinion", "its my belief that", "the conclusion Ive drawn is", "in my experience" or even "it occurs to me that"?!
FFS, if youre so clever, be a bit creative about presenting your s
t.

Always amazes me how peoples tastes can differ so greatly, personally I think there are few things more banal and coma-inducing than radio based discussion shows.Thank god for the iPod I say
