If the governments of the world bought the cocaine and heroin from the producers (who either cannot or do not have any other way of earning money) and processed it so that it had a known and consistent purity and then they gave it free to anybody who could prove they were dependant on it through clinics. The doctors would then be able to control the amount they could have then it would decimate the illegal drugs trade and stop a lot of crime.
Not a new idea but IMO a sensible approach, prohibition never worked and this is just the same.

You're almost right.

Forget the 'free for junkies' - anyone should be able to buy it, as a quality product, at a competitive market rate in Boots, Tesco, etc.

I understand personal heroin use has been decriminalised (not the same as legalised!) but this wsa a while ago, and other countries - I believe portugal? have done likewise.

You're still going to get done for dealing all of these however, unless you have any proof to the contrary.

They are only decriminalizing small amounts for personal use. Drug selling, trafficking and the lark will still be illegal.

Breaking news:
Presumed cases of swine flu in Mexico rise by 54%.
More people are now self-employing themselfs in the business of drug dealing.

Imagine now they're hooked how long it will take them to get off?

Please, please, please tell me I am misreading this, that you do NOT beleive that the only reason people produce cocaine is because they do not have any other way to survive.

Please tell me that you DO beleive they produce it and sell it because it makes them multimillionaires, rather than poor farmers.

If they live and work in acres of poppy fields, illiterate, uneducated, no factory making clothes, cars, or anything within walking distance what else are they going to do?

I believe that a small number of people own cocaine plantations and become rich, and a large number of people work on them because that's what there is to do if you live round there and make enough to get by.

People don't take drugs just for taking drugs sake. Different effects to everything else.

Anyway coke and marijuana have been legal in Mexico for years. They just forget to tell the legal system.
