I have the following print on the wall:

It was taken by Norman Parkinson in New York, and I was idly trying to pinpoint exactly where it was taken from. I think the large skyscraper on the left is the Empire State Building, and I think the bridge on the left is the Brooklyn Bridge, but I can't triangulate the rest - the couple seem to be running across another bridge.
Any ideas folks?

It looks like the FDR that runs elevated along the East River from the bottom of Manhattan Island.

Try that, thats as close as i can get it.
Roosevelt Island Bridge, is my guess. I suspect that the bridge in the shot is the Queensborough Bridge photographed from the Queens side and the two buildings are ESB and New York Life Building. That would put the shot level with mid-town not Lower Manhatten, ruling out Brooklyn and Manhatten bridges.
I reckon they are on this road but further the other way (can't get that view as some t
t decided to do pics at night)

Hi folks, excellent work - looks like Dodgey Rog and a few others all agree.
Truly there is nothing that PH doesn't know or can't work out
(If anyone is familiar with the construction schedule of the building on the right you could date the photo to a week or so!)

Looks like it's here:

although I guess the camera foreshortens (?) it making the buildings seem closer than the Google Streetview car

You were right about it being Brooklyn bridge, so there really was on;y one place it could have been

I thought the couple were on a bridge, so I was looking for two bridges at an angle - which there aren't. I also had to bear in mind that in the 40+ years since the photo was taken, buildings and bridges could have changed.
?The phot has been over my desk for over 10 years, and I never get tired of it. That's the mark of a great image IMHO.

It wouldn't be Roosevelt Island Bridge as its too substantial by way of steel. Its definately the Brooklyn Bridge.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
