Summer has arrived and my trusty flip-flops have died, which is a shame as they were from Oz and a replacement pair is therefore not on the cards.

Out shopping yesterday in the hell that is Bluewater and was thinking about a pair of Birkenstocks as I've heard rave reviews from girls I know who have them, and they look to be reasonable value. Although they do mens ones, they don't seem to be that common...

Here's the call for the resident PH fashion gurus, as for the resultant image:

Sartorially astute, or a bit of a fruit?

I find mine to be very comfy and have worn well, better than the Merrell sandles I used to wear. They have to beat crocs in the fashion stakes if that is what interests you hehe

Beating Crocs hardly makes them a winner in the male fashion stakes! Going barefoot beats Crocs! smile

How can you have 'rave reviews' over flip flops/sandals ?!

I'll love to see some of them !! (the reviews not the flip flops)

'These flip flops are just so awesome - they do everything that a flip flop should do - and more'.

I have some, they stop sharp things hurting my feet and are more comfortable than horrible flip flop things.

Fashion? wouldnt have a clue but they work as summer foot wear!

Standard Crocs are vile, but the Crocs Flip-Flops are very comfy indeed. If you can find a pair (in a sensible colour, mind) you'll not regret it.

OH has some soft leather flip flops from Timerland that have lasted a few summers of wear and still look good.

Indeed, shame the girl wearing them seems to have wet herself.

You miss the point the worse you dress the better you feel. I wear my crapest clothes and crocs when out in the good weather. Who cares what other people think....especially when you get in a decent car.

Be prepared for them to make you feet bleed, until you get used to them.

They made both inner arches of my feet red raw and bloody painful. I broke em in though and they're still going strong after 2 years.

Birkenstocks are ok, I've had a pair for years and they just last and last. 'Crocs' are a step too far though. No, no and no smile

I have a pair and wear them quite often in the summer, very comfy and will last for ages.

I'm a 'live and let live' type of fellow, but I draw the line at Crocs. Spent the whole afternoon at a rugby event and even the big guys giving their feet a break from boots struggled to look manly.

Back on topic, my wife has birkenstocks and they look good on her. It is that gender for whom they are made. If OP is male, they are not for you. Harsh but true.

I read a description of Crocs which suggested that they looked like the sort of thing that a disabled extra terrestrial would wear.

Birkenstocks, however, are ace. I have a pair that tend to come out on days like these and they really are supremely comfortable. They do stink a bit though after a lot of wear.
