when put on a wash it spins some of the time and sometimes just makes a humming noise, yet if I put it on a spin it works just fine??

Its not even 2 years old and servis, what could be up?

It drains fine, etc.... just started not to like the idea of washing clothes it seems?

Help please

started working again now.... whats wrong with servis?

only thing I could afford as all good ones were too expensive when filling a whole flat with white goods.

what is a decent washing machine for not a lot of money?

I know nothing, but I'm going to guess at a belt slipping!

In my flat I was having trouble with the washing machine. Got the plumber out and he showed me just how to get it running again. That's Italy for you.

Yep... Im an idiot, but you lot knew that.

I blame the action packed day of work, go to 2nd interview, pass it get a 3rd for tomorrow, go back to work, finish at 6pm join the team for 2 drinks, get home, eat, revise, then try and wash a shirt for tomorrow (today was supposed to be the last interview so all nice shirts ready to wash), then spot machine fking about and still need to spin cycle and iron dry whilst doing revision....

Phew...

NOw just need to get through tomorrow and see if i have a new job, then maybe off to paris for training....

too knackering!!!

yes It takes more force to turn a filled drum (washing) than an empty one (spinning). When you start a wash cycle, does the drum turn whilst the machine is filling? If it does but then stops later when it's full then the slipping belt/knackered motor theory is looking good.

Slightly off-topic but I've just had some joy with Comet and our shockigly sh**e Haier!

It's a 20month old machine with no extended warranty and on spin the drum bearings would mute the space shuttle taking off - i.e. they are fked.
The 4 different operators I spoke to on the customer helpline would not give any leeway - no extended warranty - no hope.

So, 3 weeks ago I sent Comet a letter based on the template on Consumer Direct that states that "the sale of goods act 1979 makes it an implied term of contract that goods be fit for purpose, yada yada yada" and that 20 months was not acceptable.
It got to a director at Comet HQ (hull) who sent an engineer out for a FOC inspection who agreed that the drum bearings were shot and the motor needs replacing.
Then, this week they ring to say we can exchange for a new washing machine - I'm going in on saturday to discuss options.

Result!

By the way, my housemate bought the washing machine - I would have stayed well clear - but I can't complain at a free replacement after just under 2 years!

I think it could be the heating element taking too long to heat the water and hence the humming and not doing fk all for 5-10 mins.... but even sodden the spin cycle kicks off straight away full of clothes which is the strange thing?

have you cleaned the filter at the bottom, it could be waiting for the water to empty before spinning
that may be why it works if you just put stuff in to spin

had the same problem till i had removed my sock from the rubber hose in front on the filter

filter all drained and done.... loads of water came out but nothing blocking...

Mrs WR says:-

Has it just started doing this??

Normally when it stops mid spin and hums it is draining the water out, before starting spinning again.........

Is the behaviour always exactly the same? In which case, assuming it's not a digital machine, the mechanical controller may have died.

hmmmmmmmm now i'm thinking cellonoid, don't know why perhaps a PH engineer could explain just know we had to have one changed at some point due to a spin problem but it was that long ago the missus tits didn't even know there was a south.

not sure, i happened to be in the room at the time and noticed it doing bugger all, usually i turn it on in the morning and come back to wet clean clothes..... sure its taking longer now then when i first got it.
