Loads elsewhere on the 65th anniversary today, but I thought a thread giving personal thanks to those close to us who were there might be nice.

Thanks to Donna's Uncle Charlie, for so many freedoms.

Many many thanks to all those who fought, and RIP to all those poor souls who lost their lives fighting for what they believed in and those who were just doing what they were told to do.

~ The Coxswain ~

There are forty of us waiting

In this little LCA

We sailors ... and these soldiers

We're taking in today

They came aboard our mother ship

Now several days ago

They're growing very pale

As the strain begins to show

They're only boys ... the most of them

Eighteen to twenty three

For some of them ... tomorrow

Is a day ... they'll never see

I can't promise we'll all make it lads

But I'll do my best ... you'll see

I'll remember you ... you young soldiers

This day ... in Normandy

God bless you lads ... and keep you safe

We'll meet again ... one day

This is it then lads ... keep your heads down

AWAY ALL BOATS ... AWAY.

Thank you to all those men and women who gave their lives. I wish there were more people around today trying to defend what you bravely gave us.

Thank you for fighting for everything you fought for. Thank you for the sacrifices you made for our freedoms and beliefs. Thank you for showing us what a nation is capable of, if it puts its mind to it.

And apologies that subsequent generations (and governments) have mucked everything up.

Thanks to both my granddads, who came back alive.

And thanks to their comrades, many of whom didn't come back at all.

To those who died then, those who have died since, and to those now in old age who gave us the freedom we enjoy without thinking. Thank you.

Agreed - a huge debt of gratitude to those who gave up their lives.

Shame these people are often not given the recognition that they so rightfully deserve - lest we not forget.

Many thanks to all that made the ultimate sacrifice and also their surviving comrades that all bravely fought to give us the freedom so many of us (I am shamed to say, myself included at many times) so readily take for granted

Yup, no doubt there will be several veterans today treated with disrespect and contempt by pikey-feral scum who do nothing but bleed this country dry (whilst they aren't theiving etc). There isn't a week that goes by without a story like that. This country is in a deep malaise, socially and economically. If only the next Government could start to get to grips with the seemingly endemic social problems that now exist. I'm so fed up with all wishy-washy liberal bks that seems to have infected Criminal Punishment. There appears to be simply no deterrent to stop a wayward kid from choosing a life of crime.

Sorry, going a bit OT. I'll stop.

Thank you to all that have and were prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.

And a big thank you to those that still are prepared to.

Thank you to those who sacrificed themselves for the freedom of this nation and to those who continue to put themsleves in harms way out of duty to this country.
