I don't generally read much outside of work related/Internet/car stuff, so can someone recommend a good book for me?

I would quite like something that is possibly based on fact or some of the prediction type books, or conspiracy theory etc etc

Not really into Romance, fiction, Sci-Fi etc

Just looking for some intriguing bedtime reading instead of watching the crap TV that always seems to be on...

Any suggestions?

Cheers Nick

Ps no comic books, paint by numbers, ABC of anything.........

'Master and Commander' by Patrick O'Brian.

The Times called it the best historical novel of all time, it is fiction but based on actual events.

Jeez, you're not giving us much!

What telly do you watch, what have you read in the past that you liked, (frankly what is your reading level)

The bible. The story's a little hit and miss, but they really nailed the ending. Seem to remember it made a lot of people cross though.

Catch 22 by Joesph Heller.

If you can get to the end and understand the complexities of the plots you are a better man than me.

If you haven't already read them, I'd recommend the Conn Iggulden series (4 books I think?) based on the life of Julius Caesar; his series on Ghengis Khan is pretty good too. Four Books may seem a lot but I couldn't put them down, and read them in no time.

Oh dear, asking for advice on what to read is like asking what`s the best motor to buy, everyone will have a different and very strong opinion, you`ll only know what you like you read once you`ve read a few, once you`ve done that you`ll realise there`s not enough time left to read all that you want to.

For what it`s worth and given what you`ve said I`d read something that has meaning, is timeless, is relatively easy going and concise, if somebody has something they want to say brevity is a virtue.

Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Brighton Rock.

Despite what you say about science fiction anything by Douglas Adams is well worth a shout.

I guess that`s enough for now.....I`ll get back to my Readers` Housewives

The Diceman by Luke Rainhart. Ive recomended this to a few people and they all enjoyed it. Basically a guy decided his life by the roll of the dice. Fully book and a bit mad.

Anything by Lee Child from his 'Jack Reacher' series. Most stuff by Jeffery Deaver (his Lincoln Rhyme novels have some brilliant twists and turns). I also like David Baldacci and Michael Donnelly.

Sounds like you want "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown - except that it's fking awful.

If you must read something by him read "Angels and Demons" - which passes for mindless entertainment at least.

If you want something recently out and actually good read "Black Man" by Richard Morgan. Yes it's sci-fi but it's a thriller and the sci-fi bit isn't confusing.
