next time someone trots out, if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide, point them to this video

i realise its aimed at US citizens, but even so, this one and part 2 after it are real eye openers.

bullet pointed
- Talking to the police is a bad idea.
- Any Conversation with the police is giving them information to use against you, the rights are such that only the incriminating stuff will be mentioned.
- The police are professionals at interviewing suspects, you are an amateur at defending yourself.
- Talking to the police will only strengthen the case against you.
the examples used where an innocent person talks to the police all show that the information given can be detrimental if small circumstantial stuff comes out such as a mistaken witness as you now appear to have been lieing.
- the police officer basicly said people are stupid and will admit to or incriminate themselves more often than not.

People who have done no wrong can still find themselves being penalised by the state.

I have a client who has had a penalty notice from the VAT authorities because they claim he didn't submit his last VAT return on time nor pay the VAT liability due.

In actual fact, he did - but the envelope containing the return and payment was intercepted by a frudster. The cheque was then amended to make it look like the payee was the fraudster and cashed by him. This has been confirmed by the bank.

The circumstances have been explained to the VAT office but they insist that the relevant surcharge and late return penalty will be levied.

I will be fighting this with everything at my disposal - but don't tell me EVER again that those who do no wrong will not be harrased by the state.

Can't remember who the quote is attributed to but

"Give me six sentences from a honest man and I will find something to hang him with."

Next time anyone trots it out then ask them why Mps spent nearly half a million quid of YOUR money to try and keep their expenses claims (paid for by YOUR money) a secret.
