Why?
I was verbally attacked by an emo kid on Sunday. I was just out of work for lunch, walking along the carpark with my face buried in my iphone, checking t'internet when I saw someone walking towards me. I glanced up, it was no-one I knew, so I continued my browsing.
A few seconds later, I heard "PROBLEM?"
"What?"
"Is there a f
king problem?"
"Are you talking to me?"
"Why are you staring at me?"
"Because you shouted at me."
"I'm f
king fed up with people staring at me just because I'm alternative. You need to learn some f
king respect for other cultures."
I was pretty baffled by this little kid, must have only been about 13 and frankly did look ridiculous in his white makeup and black lipstick and eyeliner... If you don't want people staring at you, don't dress like a transvestite mime artist. It was also the first time a fellow white male Brit had lectured me about respect for other cultures. Outside a KKK rally that is.
I turned around and walked merrily on my way. An hour later, walking back into work, who did I see coming back down the carpark towards me, but my little emo friend. I made a point of staring at him but alas, he had nothing to say this time. Maybe it's because our paths were meeting rather than parting, maybe it's because he had grown up a little in the past hour, I don't know.
Anyway, emo kids? What's their deal?

More or less. But they sit in their rooms listening to Evanenscense (spelling?) and Linkin' Park, crying a lot. Self-harm is a feature. There's an old joke, I wish my lawn was emo, then it would cut itself. To the emo kids: Yeah yeah we all know being a teenager sucks, we've done it, we get it. Life gets better when you leave school.
ETA, The kid in the OP's post was a chav dressed up as emo. Giving attitude for no reason is what makes chavs what they are, not how they dress.
