Quick Update From The Detail Doctor

Hi again all.
Let me start by saying thanks to all for the messages of support, it's nice to know there are some decent people left in the world.
Went into hospital on Thursday for the operation to reconsruct the orbutal floor (eye socket floor). Had a chat with the surgeon before the operation & he commentedthat the whole eye socket area was in a much worse state than they previously feared, he was still fairly upbeat about things & I duly went into theatre.
The day after the operation the surgeon came around for a chat & explained he had to do considerably more work once "in there" than he bargained on, in addition to reconstructing the orbital floor he had to plate the area around the eye using an 'L' shaped titanium plate, running down the RH side of the right eys & across under the eye (I guess cheek bone area). He did comment however that despite the considerable damage caused that the nerves were all undamaged & the muscles whilst badly bruised should make a reasonable recovery.
Even now I have had no pain killers since the operation apart from a Paracetomol before I go off to bed at night, I'm really amazed that I'm not in any pain worth mentioning.
The long term prognosis is that whilst a full recovey is possible, I should not expect to make a full recovery, but the recovery should be complete enough to allow me to carry on as I was before the assualt.
So in summary, despite everything, I feel pretty lucky and it's not going to get me down. I'm just going to enjoy the time off work whilst the weather is good, tend to the garden, go for walks in the village and generally concentrate on making as full a recovery as possible, as quickly as possible.

What's happening with regards to the scum that did it? Are you pursuing this through the criminal injuries whatsit?
Glad to hear the good(ish) news though.
Police are having no joy whatsoever, but I am going through the CICA, even the surgeon was insistant that I put in a claim, he's seeing an inceasing number of this type of injury apparently.Glad to hear the good(ish) news though.

Another quick update...........
Went to see the surgeon who carried out the operation on Wednesday & he gave me the run down in full gorey detail.
I have 3 fractures around the eye socket, 1 very bad break to the cheek bone & a very nasty rupture to the floor of the eye socket.
The fractures are one behind the eyebrow, one in the outer corner of the eye socket & another to the bone that is behind the nose (between the eyes). The fractures will self heel, but the broken cheek bone needed an 'L' shaped titanium plate on the inside & another on the outside, that you can just feel through the skin.
The hole in the eye socket floor was around 25mm, I was lucky my eye didn't drop through it apparently.
The long term prognosis is reasonably good however, MAY be driving in a month or two, the muscles that move the eye will slowly sort themselves out over the next 6-12months and the eye itself is undamaged thankfully.
Back to work on the 29th June so things can start to get back to normal hopefully

And he did, I've now got titanium in my face, so next time someone punches me they'l break their damn fist.

Have to admit I'm surprised just how calm you are TDD - although I know one other person who was seriously assaulted (lost the use of an arm, and co-incidentally had severe damage to the same area) who was a complete party animal psycho prior to the assault - everyone assumed he'd go on a mental hunt for the people that did it, but instead he actually turned into a total recluse, scared to leave the house, so I think you're doing remarkably well all things considered!You do seem pretty calm (your posts come across like that anyway) - I must admit if I was in your situation I would be permanently seething with rage and thinking about revenge!
