So apparently, in the 5 or so years that I've been accepting money for Ebay sales via PayPal, I've taken more than $3000.

No mention of the $1000's I've spent through PayPal.

They've suspended my account pending further information to be entered by me in order to 'prevent money laundering'.

They want to know the name of my business, registered business address, turnover, VAT number etc etc etc.

Now.

I'm basically your average geezer making a few sales and purchases on Ebay.

I'm not running a business and I probably only make a few quid taking into account that a lot of it is stuff I've bought off Ebay in the first place.

So I'd really like to tell PissPal to feck right off.

What's the matter with these people - can't anyone sell stuff on Ebay anymore without them throwing a wobbly and assuming that your dealing in drug money?

Utter cocks.

Made our business suffer for a while.
Totally useless customer service agents.

It's a legal obligation to prevent money laundering. I had to do it ages ago
While it is just proceedure, I agree that the way they go about it, like Ebay/Paypal do, does have a tendancy to rub you up the wrong way.

plus if you made $3000 you may have to register it as earnings and pay tax etc. which most people try to avoid, depends where you are what the limits are though.

How did you come to the conclusion that it was in USD?. OP could be Australian or Canadian or one of the many other nationalities that use dollars $ for their currency.

Yeah sorry - 2150 Euro laugh

PooPal expressed my fraudulent fortune in $ when they emailed me.

Bear in mind that this is over a period of at least 5 years (haven't checked when I opened the account so it may be more) and is not pure profit.

In fact I've probably spent more than I've made as I have been known to get cross and bid silly amounts on Ebay just to win - especially when I'm tired and emotional smile

It's supposed to be a bit of fun fer cryin out loud.

Maybe I'll list some brown and see what happens.

It is a massive pain in the arse, but there is no way around it. Just wished they'd notify you, say $500, beforehand to give you a heads up.

probably would have to be included in the "other income" part of a tax return but frankly the only reason they are checking is that as a US company they are obliged to do this by the Patriot act.
seems its how Nigerian gangsters etc laundered their money among their other wheezes.

It's FSA regs, not paypal.

Paypal do the very bare minimum they have to in order to comply with FSA regs in the UK, so you're lucky they don't want more information....

Just tell them your name is Bubba T Bubba, you bust broncos for a living, you weigh 480lbs, live in Snotsville, etc.....
