Legal question about spiking mars bars with laxatives....

If I were hypothetically to do this to give a petty thief something to think about for a few hours on the can, what could the consequences be?
Could it be proven that he stole said mars bar from me? No CCTV or anyone else around at the time of the theft...
What would the BiB say if he complained that a stolen mars bar had made him given him an epic dose of the squits?

We did something similar to a friend some years ago, if we were having a coffee and there were any chocolate biscuits he always wolfed them down even if others had not had any, so, some chocolate cripy biscuits were made partially with laxative chocolate.
