They're the obvious ones, but, say I don't want to get married, or don't want to have my children Christened (for whatever reason) how can I still have an excuse for a good old lash up?

Over here I've heard the saying "il compleanno del gatto" i.e. When you just want to celebrate for no reason, celebrate the cat's birthday.

Why does anyone ever need an excuse for a party?

One of the reasons I'm having my place re-done is so that I can have even more, for no good reason.

okay, let me try another angle..

My brother in law is getting his little one Christened, and having a big bash, no compaints there.

Now, I don't want to be a hypocrite and have mine Christened just for a party, but I do want a party, and in a way, i'd like to make it sort of official of who i'd like to be erm godlike parents for my children, but not in a religious type way.

But then he'll have to wait for it's birthday to come round, won't he?

A naming party? A welcome to the world party?

Celebrate their future and ask people to live live guides or something like that.

WTF do you want "godparents"? You know the job of a godparent, right? It's to check that the kids have been properly educated about the Christian faith. That they know The Lord's Prayer and so on.

If you want a celebration to "wet the baby's head" just have one. Tell people its a "Welcome To Planet Earth, Little Jonny" party!

Why do you need a reason?

Or, work out how old you are in days or hours or minutes or seconds - if any of them are near a round number, how about a party to celebrate that?

Or, google what happened on a particular day and choose that as a reason, however strange it may seem, the stranger the better...

That's exactly it, I don't want godparents, but i'd like to give a couple of friends some sort of 'officialdom' with respect to our children, that they're important and should we peg it, we want them to ensure they're brought up the way we want, because they're ace.

Not interested in pressies (although they're cool) could we celebrate me writing my will?

Party just because!

I regularly have them, usually impromptu as well - when few friends turn up, call other friends to come around, and bring some booze - one party!

I've heard of this before.. A sort of Guardians party, where you nominate and accept guardians rather than God parents..

Doesn't have to be legally binding just a pledge from those you nominate to look after / support your kids throughtout life..

just make up some bullst

I would have had a party whilst my rents had gone away a few weeks ago , but it would have ended up in tears and most likely every window broken
