This may seem a bit silly to some!!

I have just noticed that my local Wimpy has closed down. I've been going there since I was a child (born 1973) and it has been run by the same family all that time.

I have fond memories of going in there with my late gran for a treat.

No more Wimpy King size and chips followed by a Banana split all washed down with a strawberry shake.

RIP - Old friend. frown

A sign of the times!!!

Our local Wimpy was staffed by ALL the most attractive girls in the 'rival' school.

Every Saturday I made my way there with a few mates for a burger and milkshake biggrin

Is the one in Henley on Thames still there? It was like walking back in time whenever I went in, a real 70s throwback.

Got one im my local town.

couple of weekends ago we had friends round for the day. Decided to go to a well regarded pub near the river.

booked, arrived and sat at table. we were ignored by the staff.

eventually had to go and order our meals at the bar. an hour and 20 minutes later not a word and most certainly not a sign of food.

After 90 minutes we give up and complain. the order had been lost.

We therefore left. It was Sunday afternoon, about three pm and between us there were four starving adults and four kids chewing their fists.

we all headed to Wimpy. Within 10 minutes we had ordered and had the food delivered.

Never before has a half pounder and chips tasted so good!

Becuase Wimpy is franchised, Im sure there are many that are bad. Ours is great and I'd much rather sit in and eat than go to a McDonalds and trough.

When I first met my Ex we used to have a regular Wimpy in the one near Tooting Bec tube station - even then it was staffed by Poles and a tiny old lady used to sit and fold napkins all day biggrin

Did their milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard ?

Wimpy are awesome. Always choose a wimpy, but you rarely see them these days.

It's also a shame that they can't compete with the likes of McDonalds because of speed. I'd much rather sit in and wait 5 minutes for a hot, tasty burger with fresh, piping hot chips than get instantly handed a load of turgid, congealed sauce in a sugary bun yuck

Unfortunately, it's difficult to support a sit-down restaurant when they frequently have no parking nearby frown
