A friend of mine has just pointed out that the sad death of Michael is the first major star to die in our life time.

If you were born in the mid 70's, grew up with him he is as big as Elvis and John Lennon to us.

So in the tradition of these things where were you when you found out?

Ill start, i found out when i got into work this morning and i had an email from a mate. Then do you think i checked google, no of course i didnt. I check the internet resource for news.... Pistonheads smile

I saw the "MJ in Hospital" thread on here. Then followed the link to TMZ. Then put on Sky news on TV.

The bloke in front of me speaking to security in the office car park, shouted through the intercom 'It's Michael Jackson'. Thought it was odd?
Then every TV on the floor had the headlines when I walked through the door.

I found out in bed last night - Son shouted upstairs "Michael Jackson is dead"

Can't say I was at all moved/concerned about it, unlike when John Lennon died, maybe the manner of death made the difference, or maybe I just don't care much about the freak.

No-one's as big as Elvis - that's pretty much what killed him.

I wonder if the sadness and sorrow will be the same when Gary Glitter dies, both have fiddling with kids. At least the children of LA can sleep more comfortable now

confused How old are you? Five?

What constitutes 'major' star? Plenty of very talented people and famous people have died within my lifetime.

27. I was to young really when Freddie Mercury died. How many other massive musicians since then have gone?

I was kinda going with Musicians (they seem to have a larger following) but good point. My mum woke me up to tell me, spent the day watching the news.

The other major events were 911 and the 2006 Tsunami. I found out about 911 i was sitting in the cockpit of a Tornado carrying out a swing wing test. A fitter had a portable tv and eventually the whole of Tornado MLU shop floor was huddled around it.

The Tsunami i will always remember as its my birthday. Again spent it watching sky news.
