move into a property that was the scene of a BRUTAL murder only 5 years ago?

To cut a long story short I've decided to move house and have found the ideal place, totally individual and absolutely what I'm looking for, there's nothing else like it on the market.

I did some research last night and discovered that in 2004 the owner was disemboweled in the bathroom and completely brutally slain, the place was religiously cleansed before being sold on, the murderer was caught and locked up.

A fascinating story which in itself doesn't bother me or the mrs really, a lot of old properties have history but maybe not so recent. I'm going to put in an offer next week of renting it for a year with a view to buying after.

just wondered about other peoples take on this smile it won't make any difference to my opinion but my mates have given me some strange looks!!!

Flame away!!!!

I think it would be fine, as long as you commit a brutal murder there yourself at some point, bad form otherwise.

Wouldn't bother me, I don't think the Mrs would feel the same though.

Any internet links to the story?

I wouldn't purely because it could be very difficult whe you want to sell it on.

There was a case in the Courts a few years ago about a couple in Wakefield who bought a house , found out the owner had murdered his live in cleaner (slave) and chopped her up and buried her about the house. The buyers argued they would never have bought the house if they knew its history. They lost the case and the house was then sold on at a loss.

I would. In fact I would count it as a plus point since the irrational morons going "I wouldn't" would probably make it harder to sell so I might get it cheaper.

Yes I would.

I'd also play this with the Estate Agent to the effect that having found this out you are not sure you want it and of course it is now over-priced............

Yep - could be a right bargain.

I live in a tenement in Edinburgh - god knows what happened here 100 years ago, or since. Couldn't care less.

I'd rather not as it clearly identifies the building and hence my address if i take it, given the killer was met on the internet that could be seriously bad fking form biggrin

absolutely right, top negotiation tool! it was sold on the cheap afterwards and since, the price they want is market value but not given the history!

Indeed. You have to bear in mind that when it comes to your time to sell, your prospective purchaser is likely to undertake the same exercise and want a discount, so you need to get a good one now !
