NASA operates a copyright-free collection of Satellite imagery here:

http://www.visibleearth.nasa.gov/

There are some pretty cool things on there, the search tool is quite excellent. Enjoy:

That shot of Ireland must be extremely rare. Not a cloud over the entire country.

Already posted in the "Planes" and "News" forums - but what the hell -

Folllowing last night's scrub due to adverse weather, it's all "Go" again tonight for a launch around 11.00 pm. Watch it on www.spaceflightnow.com or on NASA TV.

I always find it amazing that shots like this seem to erase nearly all elements of civilisation from the planet.. even Birmingham from this altitude looks quite nice biggrin

Does Birmingham count as "civilisation"? smile

I was being a bit facetious about Ireland and the clouds. There are a few along the east coast (right over Dublin, in fact) but it does appear to have been an exceptionally clear day over most of the country.

Ooh - I was wondering where this thread had gone.

Pictures of the earth - yep, fits in perfectly with "Boats, Trains and Planes".

It's back smile

I think it had run its course anyway - but I just thought that the original transfer to "Boats, Trains etc" was a bit odd.

We could try and see if there is an equally clear day shot of the UK?
