Isn't that cheating? (In the paintball scenario, anyway)..

Brilliant, I wonder if you could use a few in place of a burgular alarm.

Such systems have been around for quite a few years as perimeter security with real guns attached. They have always been hugely expensive. That’s not an issue if you’re protecting something hugely valuable and have a government sized budget. They have therefore been the preserve of the State.

What marks this out is the fact that it’s put together on a budget by a home enthusiast. It shows how far electronics and computers have progressed.

There are few practical applications for painting an intruder. However, the same technology can be applied to firearms.

The real test isn’t shooting. It’s deciding when not to shoot. I doubt if any legislative system would allow responsibility to lie with a computer system. A person is going to be held responsible for the actions of this system. Whether that is the manufacturer, or those responsible for deployment will have to be decided. A government that refuses to trust its citizens with guns, is unlikely trust a computer with them.

i suppose it would be easy to get the system to inform you of an intruder, let you log on to a live camera feed over the net then allow you to fire weapon. probably get an iphone app for it!
