Check out your coinage - you could have a £50 coin in your wallet...

Yes it's a Daily Wail link

I claim £20 for each coin found, just for alerting you.

I wouldn't get too excited, I've got three on me of the new design, but they are all dated.

So looking at the website, you have to register before you even find one? They're limiting this to the first 10,000 applicants too. Seems an odd way of doing it confused

This is very old, these un dated 20p's were being sold on ebay back in Jan/Feb for around £80-£100

If this company is offering £50 you can be sure they are worth a lot more than that!.

Was thinking that too. they aren't that old. 20 years would be a bit more accurate.

Aren't the designs the same as they were though? Just on a smaller coin.

A private company is offering to buy them. You have to register before you send them in.

Wonder why this is in the news (again) now? I first read about it months ago.

It did get me thinking...

Why would they pay us for these?

Perhaps the manager who is responsible for and suggested this has the 10,001st 20p coin and after melting it the other 10,000 down, he will have the only one in existence.

I remember the 'new' ones coming out and I aint forty! There was certainly no mistaking the old and new coins so to say that the design hasn't changed in 40 years isn't really true IMO. A case of a youngster doing their research on Wikipedia methinks wink
