I bought a PC from a guy, who I found out after the auction had ended wasn't in the country.
Ended up collecting a box of bits off his brother who didn't know what was in the auction. Got home to find the power cable and HDMI lead were missing. Now fair enough I probably should have checked but kinda hoped it would all be ready to collect, as it would have to be boxed if it had been posted.
Anyway....
It was sold as "not detecting SATA drives" so I thought I'd take a punt and see if I could fix it.
Turned out the muppet had shorted the MB out with the case screws and cut the power to the SATA ports. Still soldering iron out and it was repaired.
What really narked me was that it had a high end graphics card and a decent DVD drive that I effectively constructed my bid limit on, only to find that both of these were shot when I got home.
I checked the graphics card as soon as I powered it up and also after the MB was repaired and it showed the same fault. I've since bought a new Graphics card and this is fine so it was obviously faulty when he had it.
So, I tapped him up for a bit of a refund, nothing much just 50% of the replacement costs of the parts (£50) which I thought was fair enough. Now the bloke has said stick it, you must have broken them.
So, I'm now awaiting a Paypal claim.......

Paypal wont give partial refunds. They also wont give a refund unless you say you didn't recieve the item. If you recieved it and have said you did, they will refer you to go through Ebay.
Had something similar with a car I sold. The head gasket went a few weeks after I sold it (It was a Rover Coupe, buyer should have expected it) and he threw a wobbly saying I broke it before I sold it (although he drove it home and around for 3 weeks before it died) and that it wasnt as described.
The guy paid £200 via paypal and the rest in cash. I refused to refund any money and so he decided to try and get the paypal deposit back. He told them in the dispute that the car wasn't as described and they told him it needed to be sorted through ebay as he recieved the item and that paypal cannot refund funds based on the item description.

Are you sure, there's even a tick box on the dispute form to select partial refund and teh amount you want.Had something similar with a car I sold. They can't refund an amount if he only paid a deposit through Paypal, however you are protected by Paypals "buyer protection" if you pay the whole amount via them.
