My wife and I were vigorously debating what an appropriate split was this morning, after she announced that we should put a big extension on the back of the house. This is a week after I said I wanted another track car hehe

For us, the house comes first, then if there is any money left, I get a weekend/track car. A nice daily driver is wasted on me TBH.

How does it work for you?

When the topic of spending money on cars arises in my house, I politely remind my wife that we could "live in a car but we couldn't drive a house".

Then I scuttle off to make my own dinner.

I get to spend every fvcking penny on the house, PLUS I get to spend every waking minute I'm not working to earn that money, working on extending the house to make it meet the missus' exact needs.

Fortunately she's very gracious, only telling me every few days that it was "my project" and she'd have been happy with a Barratt house (funny, because every one we looked at was too small, too cramped, too estatey, too wrong shaped, too thin walls, too crap looking, too.............)

I don't have a house OR a car. There's no salient option for me, I feel discriminated against tongue out

A TVR can be had relatively cheaply these days, so a half decent house and garden and a half decent toy in the garage.

When people talk about investing in a car, they're 99% of the time deluding themselves (unless you buy a 250 GTO or an underpriced stter), so money should go on the house as (recessions excepted) it is an investment.

50:50 for me. Providing my house is big enough for me to live comfortably and in a decent enough area then thats fine with me. Currently have a 3 bed semi and a TVR T350. Theres no way I'd make a move to a smaller house and a more expensive (Fez 360 for example) car, though at the same time I wouldn't make the move to a much bigger house and have to slum it in a £500 shed.

I had to vote for all money going into cars because I have a company car and have to park that one on the streets. Where I live they do street cleaning once a week in a random order and if your car is in the way you get a ticket so a weekend toy is not an option.

There should be another option for money going on beer.

(stangely I have 2 other cars parked at my office due to people quitting on me! That gives me the choice of Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger or Dodge Journey all V6 though. I can't park a weekend car here because in the snow the land lord would tow it)

In UK.......a decent house is beyond my means, a decent car isn't.

House. Every day of the week.

I don't put all my money into it - I wouldn't live in a big house with a £500 shed on the drive (unless it was intentional wink). In the same way that I wouldn't put all my money into a house and never have money for the pub, holiday, etc.

But a house is priority.
