There was a PH type site for all things outdoors posted a while back but I don't have a link to it at the moment, can anyone give me a pointer.
I need to get a rucksack (or two) in the next week as I'm heading for Canada shortly and will need some baggage to cart my things in. I'll be there for 6-12 months, doing some cycling/MTB and a bit of hiking too.
Any ideas what I should go for? There is simply too much choice and a vast range of prices- the obvious answer is to buy some Bergahus bit of kit for £100 ishand be done with it, but
I saw some cheaper Eurohike rucksacks that had wheels as well.
Any advice ideas would help

Are you actually going to be doing any trekking? If so, how long for and how much stuff will you need to carry (tent? sleeping bag? stove? etc)?

If I'm travelling and doing day-long trips within that I tend to take a large holdall (like the North Face ones) and a 30-40L day sack (the Berghaus Arete is my current favourite). If I'm doing longer 2+ day walks, I take a bigger 60L+ sack instead of the holdall.

Trail magazine's site might help - there's a forum on there.

I have a Lowe Alpine rucksack that I've had for quite some time now and performed faultlessly on my back whilst I was wandering around the Spanish hills on the WRC last year. It was really comfortable even after a long days walking. I'd buy another instantly if I was looking for a replacement.

That will be http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/

As for what's best. What ever fits your back best and can get all your stuff in it. It's not likely you'll get the perfect pac for walking and cycling. The ideal weight distribution and fit will be quite different for each circumstance, however, the best thing to do is go to a large shop, like Cotswolds Outdoors and try a load on.
