I'm normally very laid back, easy going and sensible.

My laptop is taking the brunt of the assault caused by my fking useless wireless broadband connection my inability to control my temper. How does it know when I'm doing something really important? With military precision it will wait until the very second that I; for example confirm a PH post, sign into my online banking account, set up and confirm an online standing order to, not a second before disconnect at the crucial moment so I - loose the whole post, have to re submit ALL my personal fking information and also not know if the balance transfer was completed therefore not knowing whether I have to do it all again. The laptop has just taken two decent sized fists to the screen and got thrown across the room. It is now cowering in a corner shaking with tears in its eyes. I feel quite guilty. And it's still working, much to my agastment.

And another thing, going back to an anformentioned point, why the fk does Lloyds have such a laborious fking log on process to get into my online banking, I have to remember the 1, 6, 7, 98 fking letter/number of my password and 'memorable' (thats ironic) information before they'll even think about letting me on to MY account. I'm all for DP (not double penetration; althoough the more I think about it...) but they take the fking piss.

Will my broadband disconnect me while trying to confirm this post? If so, you will read about me in the papers...

Very good post, I like. Lloyds online banking does my head in, have to remember an 8 digit number (IIRC) that is completely random and I can't remember so it's written down on some letter they sent me many years ago. And then they have then they also want the answer to some memorable question that I thought of 6 years ago and then want random digits as the OP mentioned! And then they wonder why I don't seem to be using my online banking much...!! whistle

Natwest on the other hand is very easy to remember which is why it gets used the most smile

The "letters x, y and z from your memorable information" thing is designed to foil a keylogger.

You're not alone..'brother'

I too feel your pain, i have Virgin broadband/wireless connection and use a (now battered) lappie. Your experiences are as mine, never does it fking click off, lose connection at the begining of a looong post, but when you hit return to submit the bd post/reply!

Nationwide is also the same, have to remember a 10 digit number (can be saved though), a memorable word/name, and then another 6 digit number that cannot be saved. Sometimes i have a thick fking brain spasm... can i remember the bd number?!?!

Nope. grumpy

It's the law of sod.

Just like my Tom Tom. Tomorrow we are heading to a Wedding. So I boot up Tom Tom. And it's blank. There was some bad language, some threatening behaviour, and now, with the help of Tom Tom staff it's all tickety-boo. But how the thing new I really needed it to work tomorrow is beyond me.

There are many other examples of things working wonderfully whilst you have no deadline/important thing going on. As soon as that changes though......

To be fair the system Lloyds use is much better than the silly calculator you get with Barclay's/NatWest.

The Lloyds system is pretty tame compared to Natwest, count yourself lucky! I have moved most of my activity to Lloyds simply due to Natwest's ste system. I don't want a fking calculator to login to my account, I have enough PI numbers to remember without the remembering to take my fking calculator to work, back home and on every trip away from home rage

Yesterday we needed to get 15 cars out on airport runs and Long distance jobs for the local private school. 15 minutes before the first booking, the phones went down. Then we lost internet. The server had a spaz attack and just as we were rebooting it all, we had a power cut. The UPS kicked in and lasted for 30 mins and that was it.

2 hours of controlling with paper and pen, one phone plugged into a socket and a print out (fortunately) of all the flight details etc. No Air conditioning and three of us in the office running around like idiots hehe

Technology ALWAYS fails at the crucial moment! ranting

Barclays system is a massive pain in comparison - not only have you got one shortish number to remember, one long number to remember, then you have to put in your code using their stupid calculator thing which lives at home so the whole point of mobile banking is lost, but if you want to transfer money to someone you have to do the whole code thing again.

I'd be very very curious to see the comparison between someone like Lloyds who don't use a calculator thing, and someone like Barclays who do, for fraudulent activity (which would have been avoided by use of the calculator), and the cost comparison between the calculator and key-fob sized thing which at least you could carry around with you.

I read an article a while back by some guy who's an IT security expert. He reckoned he had all his passwords/security numbers etc written down and stored in his wallet. His thinking was that we all tend to be pretty careful with out wallets and anyway if it was stolen its unlikely that the thief would be interest in a scrap of paper with cryptic numbers etc on it, they'd be after cash and cards. I have postage stamp sized piece of paper in the back of my wallet with a few codes etc on it. Would mean nothing to anyone else as it doesn't identify the banks it refers to.

I was suprised myself.. so much so I minced walked over picked it up and let out a little shriek of joy grunted when I saw the screen wasn't smashed

Sounds like Natwest is even worse, I'm just glad i don't have to use it that often.

It did highlight last night however that i've forgotten to cancel all of my standing orders from the flat I moved out of 3 months ago weeping

Life is too hard...

I feel like that sometimes, but I'm not going to throw £800 worth of Dell XPS across the room. I have an old USB keyboard I take my temper out on instead. I think it has less than 20 keys left on it now.

Re: Banking, credit cards and numerous Money stashing sites.....

I set up an Egg account some time ago, not bad rates too but irrelevant at this stage:

Any-who.... they have on their website an ability to compile / fetch all of you other accounts with other bankc credit cards, savings and loans and display it all on the one web page. Moreoveer to solve your problems above, you can from one click then go to each of those Bank sites straight in to you account ! Voila.

My 'Egg page' shows 4 egg saving accounts, 5 different credit card balances, to ISA balances, and 5 other Current account balances.

One Username and memorable Password for your Egg account, and 10 minutes initially to collate, set up all your other accounts and your are my son, sorted !

Egg Money Manager

It only works from the Computer you install their software in & pre-load the Banking data in. (i.e. I can't go to someone else's PC and do all of the above)
It's very useful, but if you have one of these calculator things from Barclays you still have to put that in when th eegg page loads. Then put it in again when you click on your Barclays a/c to go there.

Post your bank details/passwords etc. on PH and ask the mods to make it a sticky.
