Alarm for elderly relative

Tell Mark that Daniel Olley sent you.
Just don't slag his work off if he does something for you, as he'll get into a girly fit and start threatening you with some kind of court action. If you're really lucky, like me, you'll get name-checked on his website with your supposed employer until you point out to him that that is more likely to get him into legal hot water and he takes it down asap.

I'm thinking agout getting one of these kind of things for my elderly Mum. No monthly charges, and you can set it to dial your mobile (and another, and another - 5 times).
Cheap, but possibly better - I suspect that my mother and a lot of elderly people would be very reluctant to push the button on one of the commercially monitored systems in case they were seen to be "making a fuss", but would worry less about calling a family member.

Mrs DL's elderly GodMother has a local council provided service called LifeLine - standard cost in her area is £4 something per week but she doesn't pay for some reason (nothing to do with income, she owns her own house and is quite comfortably off).
Picking a random council in your area:

We've only recently got more heavily involved in looking after her (after she had a fall) and I'm absolutely gobsmacked by the range of services provided for people like her by the council. I can now see where all my tax goes - the duplication goes way beyond ridiculous and they even have a department to care for carers - wifey was offered days at spas etc!!

I work as a carer, and nearly all of the people I visit have one of these, or something very similar. You press it and get through to the call centre, and they can call a relative if it's not urgent, or the relevent emergency service. As someone said earlier they don't like causing a fuss, but as their relative is the first contact for the call centre, they feel comfortable pressing it, and I've experience it being used a lot. Good idea getting one - I've known them to save lives.
ETA- just seen that's an american site but it's called 'lifeline' over here too.

have a read around this bit all you need is a phone line, they can add CO2 sensors and all sorts. The little pendat that you clip to the patient is great if they fall and cant reach the phone
