Hard to think that 19 years have passed since we picked up those two tabbies from the Cats Protection League.

Brother and sister Sammy and Floss were the sweetest natured cats ever and in their own way became a focus of our household. Whatever was going on they would be at our side. Sam in the garage supervising whatever job was in progress and Floss organising the garden and the domestic duties.

We were devastated when Sam was lost to feline cancer a few years ago so Floss became even more idolised than before.

Sadly her health started to slip about 6 months ago, off her food, losing weight. PH input helped and some of you suggested special diets and 'Royal Cannin' which seemed to work for a while but eventually even the best efforts of our local cat clinic were not enough.

The tough decision was made last Friday, we put her to rest in her favourite sunny place in the garden on Saturday then spent yesterday consoling ourselves with cat stories and generally being down in the dumps.

Got to get back to work and normality today and I just thought that sharing this with you would help. It has, I rememer that 19 is a good age for a cat, she enjoyed a charmed life and will never be forgotten.

Here's a pic as we want to remember them, in their prime a few years ago.

Sorry to hear that. Console yourself with the fact that you rescued her and gave her a great quality of life.

I just wish I had got to have 19 years.....my cat, Maude managed 12 years with us, before she had to be put down due to a huge tumor in her stomach. That was over 2 years ago now, and I still miss her.

Unfortunately mine only lasted 7 years before an 18ish year old tt doing an estimated 70+mph down a 30mph road hit him on the corner of his bumper killing him instantly.

The only gratification was he took the whole left side off his chaved up Halfrauds piece of ste.

Unfortunately the neighbour who saw the car didn't see it so well and couldn't identify it properly.

Very sad.

You have my upmost sympathies for your loss and I fear we will be following in your footsteps. Out lovely white boy was diagnosed with mouth cancer a few weeks back. It's now very obvious and can't be long until he is unable to eat due to not being able to close his mouth. He will then starve to death. It will be a very sad few weeks coming up. This will just leave his sister of 15 years old who seems in great health now.

2009 is a ste year...

Very sorry to hear it. It's a cliche, but 19 years really is a good innings. Every creature dies, but the difference is in the quality of life beforehand and sounds like she had a good one.

Sorry to hear that, you have my sympathies as well!

Up until last year I hated cat's with a passion, thought them to be very unfriendly and in some cases nasty! However bought my first house with the missus and she was nagging to get a pet. We couldn't get a dog, small back yard and were out all day so wouldnt be fair. I then thought about a cat. So I suprised the missus one day by saying we were going out to find something but before leaving opened the car boot to show her the cat bed, bowl etc that I had bought ready for the new arrival! We went to a few rescue centres but they didn't have many in for some reason, so we went through the local ad's paper and found someone locally. Well we turned up at the house to find the worst looking couple I have ever met in my life, the cats were in a cage in the living room, they stunk and there were 8 little dogs running round, st everywhere, it was a right mess! We made the decision that this was better than getting a rescue cat, we were rescuing this little one from this bloody house!!

Well we got "her" home gave her a wash etc and took "her" to the vets for a checkup, it turned out "she" was actually a "he", just goes to show what the owners knew as they supposedly checked the sex whilst we were there!

So we named him Milo and 1 year later he is like my side kick round the house, always comes to me for attention, always comes and curls up on my lap, much to the annoyance of the missus. I really don't know what I'd do if he went missing or got ill, so from a cat hater to a cat lover.

Two truly well loved cats, 19 is a fantastice age but it still doesn't make the loss any easier, have great comfort in the fact that they both had great lives and you did your best by them. We lost our 16 yr old a few months ago we took her on when she was 10 because her old owners wanted her put down, the vet refused and I fell for her, poor little scared thing she was. I like to think we gave her a good few years she wouldn't have had otherwise.

Genuinely sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that, 19 is a good innings though.

Even though my puss is a psycho I couldn't bear to be without her. Even if I did have to throw a pillow at her at 4am because she was eating a Top Gear magazine I left on the bedroom floor.

R.I.P Floss, they really do become part of the family and it is like losing a loved one. Hopefully in time you will feel able to give some other cats a good home.

Two good-looking cats there.

Sorry to hear of the demise of Floss.

Getting another one is possibly a good way of moving on.

He was a big fella, but to be fair if you hit a solid object at 70mph, it's going to cause damage whatever it is!

Thank you one and all for your good words - and to the piss-takers for their mercy on this occasion.

It certainly helps to be in company of others who understand.

Things are getting back to normal as they must. I think we're resolved to be catless for a while although I am sure that will change before too long.

In the meantime look after your moggies averyone.

Thanks again.

I can completely sympathise. Yesterday at 4.30 my 16 year old Jack Russell had his last trip to the vets. We knew it was coming at some point but it makes it no easier.

Previously there was always someone home when I got in but now the place feels empty frown
