A dumb, lumpen question from me I'm afraid, but would Americans expect to see weights described in Kg or lbs ?

Thanks very much.

Remember that some US measurements are slightly different from UK measurements, the gallon is a case in point.

Also, "large" over here is a mere happy meal over there. And the "pound saver menu" is only a dollar, which was effectively sausage McMuffins for 50 pee.

"Exhaust Manifold or Exhaust Headers ?"

Depends.

Headers usually refer to aftermarket items with individual pipes or branches. If its the usual plenum as fitted as standard then those are called manifolds.

At least a Tonne and a Ton are pretty much the same thing. If either landed on your foot you wouldn't notice the 40lb difference!

Annoys me how some of the voice-overs on TV documentaries switch from Metric to Imperial and back again - sometimes almost in the same breath. And the tangle Mythbusters gets into is ridiculous.

A gallon is 8 pints in both cases, but the US pint is smaller (16floz as opposed to 20)

Percentage is different too wink

I recall buying a pair of jeans in the USA several years ago whilst there on a training course, and the shop assistant said "We get a lot of people from the UK in here"

"That's because we have to pay 17.5% tax in the UK" I said.

"Seventeen percent???" she asked in suprise...."Is that the same as American percent?"

Which is why I always complain when you ask for a pint of Coke in a pub and they give you a 16floz glass, and then get upset with me because I then point out I asked for a pint of Coke, a British pint of Coke not an American pint of coke, there is a 4 floz difference

Nasa used both metric and imperial on one of there shuttles, needless to say it never got to Mars, will see if I can dig up some info

ETA: Here we go, they lost a 125 million US dollar Mars orbiter, or a 77.1 million British pounds, Mars orbiter, due to Nasa using the Metric system, and Lockheed Martin using Imperial

That is a bad habit. Go and see Max Mosley for your punishment.
