Hi All,

I'm taking our kids to the Yeovilton air show on Saturday. They are overjoyed at the prospect, but I'm somewhat concerned about the youngest two being scared witless by such delights as a Vulcan on a low level flypast! hehe

Looking on the web, there are plenty of kid-specific ear defenders, mostly from a company called Peltor, but they cost around £18 a pair. Given that adult ear defenders for use on constructions sites and the like only seem to cost around £4 a pair, why is there such a difference?

Has anyone tried adult adjustable ear defenders on kids? Do they fit at the smallest setting?

Childrens hearing is somewhat better than adults, to preserve their hearing at the upper frequency levels is a more tricky task.

Push the boat out, spend the £36 on maintaining your childrens hearing...

If you are really cheeky you could ask at your local Krap-Fit for a couple of sets. They have to be supplied by law, but the tyre monkeys never wear them.

I wouldn't recommend them for children as you can never be sure that they are wearing them correctly.

I have five kids and five sets of Peltor Kids headsets. Worth every penny. Google Best4Headsets - they are £14.

My kids couldnt get on with the squishy in-ear ones as they were too big and kept falling out.

Bugger. frown Here's hoping they've fixed the issue by Friday. Mind you, there is plenty of other good stuff due to fly!

I bought a couple of pairs from screwfix for my kids when we took them to Biggin Hill at the weekend. £3.99 each + £5 next day delivery. Fitted perfectly as they are pretty tight on adults anyway.

As for whether they are good enough to protect little ears - yes some of the jets are a little noisy, but not to "damaging" levels IMO. The Typhoon was the worst culprit, and my kids were very happy once they had the defenders on (didn't like it at all without).

99% of the people/kids watching aren't wearning any ear defenders at all, so the fact they have something on that is designed to stop sound is a plus. As soon as they get to the nightclubs at 18, they will undo all that good anyway...

Have fun - I missed the Vulcan too as it was too unwell to fly on the Sunday at Biggin Hill :-(

Ooh. Let's play "spot the person who hasn't seen what happens when you put a 2yr old 60 feet below a fast jet". It scares the crap out of them. This has nothing to do with them being over-protected or anything, and everything to do with the fact that they're just plain fking LOUD!

I intend to come back with a few hundred pictures of afterburners and almost upside down Chinooks and the like. I really don't want a screaming toddler to get in the way of that, and ear defenders should make the difference.

And all because they let the C of A expire and failed to apply in time to get it renewed, what a cock up!

Is that a baby sitting offer?

If not, let the man have his family day out and enjoy it.

My thoughts exactly.

Was that a babysitting offer then? If so, just let me know when and where to drop them off!

The man is whinging about paying money to protect his kids ears because he wants to go to an airshow. He then whinges about the kids screaming with the loud noise and disturbing his photo-taking.

So he either leaves screaming toddler at home or he coughs up to protect his kids ears or he takes screaming toddler with no ear protection and gets no photies.

Kermit, I think that's a no. biggrin

Makes me laugh all these dogmatic anti kids people, good job they were never kids themselves, Ah the simplistic dogmatic folly of youth.

I can remember being like it myself when I was young.

Pets, but it's a bit late for that.
