Litter dropping has become a major problem throughout the UK & has spiralled out of control IMHO. Some people just drop their crap wherever they want without a second thought, as if it's socially acceptable to do so - often coming up with the excuse "people are paid to clean it up & it keeps them in a job"

The authorities should be taking this matter a whole lot more seriously than they are by handing out fines at every opportunity.

I wondered where it had all gone wrong & after dropping my 8 year old son at school this morning, it suddenly became clear. The fence surrounding the school field looked like a scene out of '28 Days Later' & there has been a long standing issue with dog owners & the mess their pets leave behind - not that they are allowed on there in the first place!

Under every table in my sons classroom I had difficulty seeing the floor beyond pencil shavings & torn up peices of paper. My patience with his teacher has worn very thin as she smiled & gave the same lame ass "what a coincidence, I was just about to" excuse - but you can't press the issue too much, there's a fine line between complaining & having an aggressive attitude.

If the kids themselves believe these issues are not important, what chance have they got?

This one REALLY boils my piss.

FFS people, you've only got one country, and its a brilliant one. Why not look after the bloody place rather than treating it like a fking dump?? If Singapore has got one thing right, its the draconian policing of littering.

I would MUCH rather see people fined £150 on the spot for dropping fag butts, crisp packets or anything else, than live in the seemingly endless fking pigsty that this country seems intent on falling into. And that includes spitting. The fking bubonic plague nailed half population and yet loads of people wander around gobbing on the pavement like their marking some fking disease-ridden territory. Its disgusting.

There's a lake near my house and walking to work this morning, I saw 2 swans and 6 fluffy little grey signets, swimming along happily. Amongst a floating pile of bloody garbage. It was a Kodak moment, if ever there was one.

I agree 100%, but what really annoys me is people who throw litter out their car window while driving.

The other day I was on the A9 northbound between Perth and Inverness, one of my favourite drives because the scenery is amazing. Stunningly beautiful in places.

I'm on the dual carriageway behind a Volvo and he throws orange peel out the window. Naughty, but at least it's biodegradale. Then, a big fk off two litre Lilt bottle is thrown out and pings off my windscreen!! Cue lights, horns, and hand gestures!

I so agree...the amount of times I have watched people throw rubbish out of their window as they are driving along mad

I caught my son trying to do this only last week....but after the ear bashing he got, I don't think he'll be trying again biggrin

I dont mind... errr.... tolerate bio degradable stuff, but hate littering of any other kind so much so that when I was driving a few mates to the lakes and they were drinking, one made the mistake of throwing the can out of the window.... cue emergency stop and lots of smoke and one mate kicked out of car until he retrieved the can.

Nicely done Dupont - This really irritates me too as there's just no bloody need for it.

I often find McDonalds bags in my village even though we're about 10 miles from McDs... So you've driven 10 miles, eaten your McDs and dumped the rubbish 5 minutes from your own house you idle chav bd!

I'll avoid opening the "fag butt out the window" can of worms (as that's no better than throwing a can out of the window) Ok, I'll open the can - there's no bloody need - use your own ashtray and empty it in a fking bin!

10/10 for the can throwing incident but minus several million re; "I dont mind... errr.... tolerate bio degradable stuff".

Try riding a M/C into a bend over 'biodegradable stuff' & see what happens.....not to mention the risk of it hitting you in the face @ 70mph.

NOTHING should be thrown from vehicles, moving or otherwise - full stop!

Litter drives me absolutely bonkers at the best of times, but when I'm up in the hills and I see stuff discarded, the sheer rage I feel is palpable.

it only goes to reinforce my view that the vast majority of humans are scumbags.

We have the same issues in the UAE but tenfold.

Many times I have seen people stop at traffic lights and empty the contents of their car and ashtrays - it got to the point where I knew the lights frequesncy so got out of my car picked up some of the stuff, opened the car door and threw it back in.

Bloke starts shouting at me so I offered to the call the police. He went silent and let me put back most of his ashray back in his lap.

I'm sure he dumped it as soon as I was gone but still...

We're going to introduce legislation to make it a finable offence here but with high fines and even car confiscation for repeat offenders.

These sh*tbags who take their disposable BBQs into some of the nicest parts of the Lake District, and then leave them lying around when they're finished, need their testicles chopping off and feeding to them. Assuming they don't want that to happen.

when I say biodegradable and dropped, its like a half eaten sarnie for the birds, crisps cause I have missed my mouth and sometimes apple cores, but only out of site in hedges, etc where it can breakdown without being an eyesore... not on the road or the footpath, thats disgusting!!

A friend recently returned from working there......he told me there were Eastern block 'ladies' in abundance? - also that other than drinking alcohol, allowing your car get dirty was one of the biggest things to watch out for - is this true?

A director at my old company once witnessed a young lad throw a McDonalds bag from a window in the middle of Manchester whilst at a set of lights.

He walked over, picked it up and stuffed it back through the window - it was funny at the time.

I hate littering, really hate it, you really have to wonder about the state of these peoples' homes.

Out of a moving car is another matter, it doesnt matter what it is. I once had a cigarette hit my front grill on the motorway, I didnt see where it ended up so I was forced to pull over and check it wasnt going to set me on fire. Annoying.

Alcohol is fine as long as it's inm designated places or at home - no problems there. Plenty of the locals will be in the bars as well...

Ladies? I don't frequent those sort of places but I'm told that many have shut down with the staff leaving also...

Cars - Oman has a law stating that a car must be clean - the UAE hasn't (as far as I know) - my car only gets cleaned onces every few weeks which means that most of the time it is covered in dust.

Wasn't there something in this, where they started "zero tollerance" in New York and started fining people for littering etc. and a lot of the bigger crimes rates also went down?

I take it you have not been to africa ?

Plastic bags have been banned in Rwanda thainks to their litter problems although I believe Bangladesh was the first to ban then as the litter problem was blocking the monsoon drains and they have a very progresive waste management/environmental program there.
