I bought a laptop from Comet last September and now it's failed I can't find the receipt. Short of getting a copy of my Credit Card statement, is there any other way I can show when I bought it from them to claim under the 12 month repair warranty?

I'd be amazed if they couldn't find your receipt on their system if you know what card you paid for it on.

Not sure if it helps, but when I used to work in a restaurant, we had to keep all credit card receipts for 2 years or so (IIRC), so it is possible they will have a copy somewhere.

Comet will have your details on their system, so all you have to do is go in and explain to them you have lost the receipt, and they will look you up.

Always used to happen when i worked there.

There will be a record but it all depends on who you speak to and how clued up/willing they are as to how quickly/efficently it gets found from experience. Bybass monkeys, speak to the organ grinder...

Brilliant - thanks folks, I'll give this a go tomorrow. I know the date I bought it and have the COmet Collect and Reserve number plus with an item like a laptop, was pretty sure they'll have it's serisl number on their records

There is no legal obligation to give a receipt when purchasing goods. Therefore they cannot demand a receipt when returning goods. However, then can ask for "proof" of purchase, and a bank or credit card statement is acceptable for this.
