So here I am, feeling a little melancholy on a Sunday night, chatting with the wifie about why it's hard to feel truly contented with life. Got healthy wife and kids, comfortable lifestyle, and yet there's something which continually wants more. At what point does one achieve contentedness, it surely isn't material things and must be 'relational' (which I've got). Heck I'd give up everything for the continued health of my family.

It's a conundrum and no mistake. And here's a phrase that has come to my mind, "maybe the first step of being content is knowing that you're not but you should be". Think I might wander from place to place like 'Grasshopper' in Kung Fu!

Contentednass is, wanting what you have, not having what you want.

Contentedness is knowing that the name of the character who wandered from place to place in Kung Fu was called "Caine". hehe

If you have attachment to anything, person or goods, you will not find contentedness. You will never be truly happy.

What if I have attachment for contentedness, what happens then? smile

'Contentedness' comes from realising that you're an ugly fker, and never going to do better than what you've got at home. Deal with it.

Contentedness isn't a physical entity. *slaps the back of your head* Focus, Grasshopper!

Promote the upright and dismiss all evildoers, and the people will be contented. Promote the evil-doers and dismiss the upright, and the people will be discontented.

However, as we all know, to truly experience contentedness, is to walk into a film rental shop with no ambition, and to find something you really want to watch.
And as mentioned above, about 3 pints in.

That's the thing. You need to accept what you have and "deal with it". But just how do you "deal with it"? What does "dealing with it" involve?

contentness means being thick and not realising it. I know I speak from experience

Realising that you're an ugly fker and never going to do better than what you've got at home, I guess?

Wouldn't that lead to depression?

Anyway, Mobile Chicane has a point. In order to achieve contentedness, or inner happiness, you need to truly accept yourself, warts and all. Do you really accept who you are or do you always want to change something because you feel you are imperfect? Are you always looking for some form of temporary happiness whether it is by satisfying the cravings of a cigarette or the three pints mentioned above or do you feel the need to put someone down so you feel superior to them?

I am sure you know that deep down, things like cigarettes, alcohol, chocolate, cakes, other ways you feel satisfied, are not bringing you the true happiness you seek.

Once contentedness is achieved, fear and loathing is always round the corner waiting to kick you in the bks.

Contentedness kicks in again, once fear and loathing has done its deed, only for fear and loathing to, once again, kick you in the bks.

Its a vicious cycle in my experience...smile
