Maybe I should have devised a "100 things I want to do in life" book but I find myself a bit of a serial hobbyist.

I started out young playing music and after learning to play Keyboard at 7, I then found myself being offered the chance to play other instruments. I had one lesson on a violin (parents told me not to bother), about 6 months playing the trumpet and then found Guitars at 13. I still play occasionally but I'm nowhere near the player I used to be...

Then in my teens, I got myself into Mountain biking & Cycling. As I was on a budget then, things never really progressed much but I did use to fill my weekends with all day riding on the bike.

17 came around and the bikes went into the garage when I learnt to drive. 4 years driving and I wanted to take my motorbike licence. 21 and I took my bike licence, which to this day is now my main interest.

Photography is always something I've been keen on. I first used my dads SLR at about 14 but never had another decent camera until I bought a bridge cam over 2 years ago. I now want to progress to SLR as I feel I've exhausted the current camera I'm using.

However, I have recently took up mountain biking again, watching Le Tour is making me want to buy another road bike and I still have an ambition to learn how to Paramotor! I've also been fishing recently while I also enjoy fell walking.
I'm also trying to up my fitness as the walking tends to be every few weeks and in between I dont do enough exercise.

Does anyone else find themselves in this kind of position where you tend to stretch yourself across subjects rather than focusing on one in particular? I guess some of them go together quite well (bikes and photography for example as I tend to ride where there is some kind of view) but it certainly hits me in the pocket!

Yes, and i'm generally not very good at any of them. I still havent found the one thing that I really enjoy and am also really good at.

Must keep trying I guess.

To an extent, yes.

Playing with cars always seems to be my main hobby, but the second place one alternates between music, mountain biking, skiing and various other flavours of the month.

Here's a few I've tried in the past, in no particular order.

Skydiving, orienteering, potholing, abseiling, kite flying, photography, shooting, diving, model railways, Scalextric, r/c aeroplanes. boats and cars, astronomy, guitar playing, drum playing, motorcycling, gliding and canoeing.

I've probably missed a few, but that's enough to be going on with.

Am still doing the photography and shooting, astronomy gets a look in when I can be bothered to drag the telescope outside, diving only tends to happen when I am holiday these days, I still have the guitar and drums, and the models (railway, Scalextric and r/c) are all lying around in cupboards somewhere, as are the kites.

All the macho outdoorsy stuff has long since passed in to history.

Careful with that one. As fun as it is, eventually the law will catch up with you
