My local council take on global warming
Discussion
Fife council stated in FifeLife (a local council rag) that "the increase in carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is responsible for the poorer quality of our air, increasing human respiratory problems and allergies"
Anyone care to show the basis of this "fact"? or is this the usual uneducated drivel I have come to expect from council sources?

Quality. Inert gas expelled by humans causes respiratory problems!?!?
...although I suppose if they were to stop people breathing out that may cause some respiratory problems...
Can I suggest bringing this to the attention of:-
- the local rag, who can take the piss out of the council;
- the opposition party, who can take the piss out of the council.

Funnily enough, this is in place. I've emailed the council asking them to supply scientific evidence for this worrying statement as I suffer from the after effects of a pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, collapsed lung etc. Their reply will be interesting....although I suppose if they were to stop people breathing out that may cause some respiratory problems...

It's really scary how people who know very little about anything are making decisions that affect all of us (And also statements such as the one posted above about total removal of CO2 from the atmosphere). It doesn't bode too well for future generations does it?
How the **** do these morons get air-time?!? Particularly nowadays, when for an increasing number of people (to quote The Simpsons) "TV's taught them everything they know"!
Seriously...the Broadcasting Standards Authority (or whoever it is now) should receive complaints about bias and about sheer moronic ignorance being displayed on TV, esp. when masquerading as 'fact'!
My esteemed local council replied to my email query with this link CO2
My original query was their declaration that "the increase in carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is responsible for the poorer quality of our air, increasing human respiratory problems and allergies"
Nowhere do I see CO2 listed, or am I being obtuse?

Couldn't see any mntion myself. My original query was their declaration that "the increase in carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is responsible for the poorer quality of our air, increasing human respiratory problems and allergies"

If you can be bothered, write them another reply taking them up on this. Councils/ Government bodies often do this I find; responding to your questions by completely avoiding the points you picked up on!
It's the same when Politicians are asked quite simple Yes/No questions and then they proceed to ramble on for 30 minutes about absolute tosh!!! Deflection, deflection, deflection!!!

They've fobbed you off. They're hoping that you'll be lost in the information and won't take it any further. It's a classic trick of the uneducated, ignorant and stupid. Reply back and ask where it SPECIFICALLY states that C02 is responsible for poorer quality air. My guess is that you won't get an answer, just more links to seperate articles about air quality and C02 emmissions. Dont let them get away with fobbing you off.
Write back and demand to know who Co2 causes poor air-quality and respiratory problems.
Stay on them!

Although the body requires oxygen for metabolism, low oxygen levels do not stimulate breathing. Rather, breathing is stimulated by higher carbon dioxide levels. As a result, breathing low-pressure air or a gas mixture with no oxygen at all (such as pure nitrogen) can lead to loss of consciousness without ever experiencing air hunger.
