What won the war?
Discussion
Now these days there are lots of reasons why the Allies won the war.
There is the Spitfire, Winston Churchill, breaking the Enigma to name a few.
Personaly I thought this man won us the war.

Before you hurl abuse a me, let me explain.
He made lots of wrong decisions that gave us the advantage and his side the diadvantage.
So, what do you think won the war?

Hitler's stupid strategic decisions
(German tactics were good)
another 3 months of battle of britain focussed on airfields and radar (not bombing london) and RAF would have been stuffed, game over for us I reckon
once UK taken, US would have kept out of it
then should have started on Russia and focussed on 1 front at a time

Ignoring all the philosophical points, yes I also believe that Hitler remaining in power for as long as he did (effectively the end) was what ultimately lost the war for Nazi Germany.
It could have been a very different story though if the Von Staffenberg (SP?) plot had succeeded.
Even more so if you had removed Georing they would have had a better chance of victory.
I can’t recall facts and figures but a couple of things that point to this are:-
1. Why did the Germans not totally muller us at Dunkirk?
2. Why did Hitler allow Georing to divert aircraft from attacking RAF bases at a point where we were no more than a month away from total destruction of the force. Just because of a couple of miss directed bombs and an ego the size of Germania?
3. Why did the SOE actually spend significant time PREVENTING assassination attempts on Hitler succeeding late on in the war on the direct orders of Churchill?

I read somewhere (or watched)cant quite remeber now, but it was about Stalin, who reckoned that he had russian agents in place as early 1944 to kill Hitler, but decided against it as he was making too many mistakes that were playing intothe allies hands and to kill him and let a more able general take his place may have been more harmful.
