I have just got an Iphone and as its so bloody big I know I will either lose it/break it/damage it etc and was wondering what was the best way to keep it safe.

I personally think men that have their phones in those belt holders look like right dick heads (or engineers) but was wondering what the PH collective think. Is it "ok" or even cool to wear you phone on the outside of your body (like a sort of superman but with phones) or is it a big nono and you will be laughed at by everyone, even MJ who is dead.?

Or, what are the best ways to protect my new baby?

oops

seems I'm in the minority

I've an old Nokia 5500 with a belt clip and have too much crap in my pockets to damage a phone in there. Zippo, chewy, hanky smile, and loose change.

Soon to be getting an N97 and it'll be going on the belt out the way too

Most of the time I've got Snickers trousers on with a phone pouch built-in but when in going out clothes I do leave my T-shirt out over it so it doesn't look too knobbish boxedin

Ashamed to say that about ten years ago I used to wear one at work.

But I was working at Orange at the time, so didn't feel a dhead in such company.

Didn't do it outside work needless to say.

I have chipped too many phones in my pockets sat on others and broken them. I have a RAZR V8 and it is on a belt clip.

They should be banned with fines for those caught wearing them.

OP you are a cock.

Assuming you go ahead with the phone thing

Stuff it in your jacket/trouser pocket or in a bag.

My blackberry sits in a belt holder, it is too big to put in a shirt pocket, my front trouser pockets are full (wallet front left, money and penknife in front right) and as I am in and out of cars all day my back pockets are out. The holder sits underneath the line of my jacket, I'd be amazed if anyone knew it was there.

It is perfectly ok if you work in construction (in which case I would suggest a JCB or Samsung tough as nails phone) but for your daily business its a bit sad. It is not a weapon and does not require a holster, it is a phone designed to go in your pocket. If you're worried about damaging it, buy a case for it which will ruin the asthetics but it will protect it. Personally, I tend to look after my phone and keep it in a cover until it eventually does get a scratch/chip. After that; to hell with it.

Put it in your gun holster rolleyes. It just means that you'll have to put your gun somewhere else. Or carry it.

Nobody's going to going to comment about it, are they?

the under the shoulder bag looks good, wear a fleece to work and both pockets full of tools, multi tool - great for the tube as it under the 3 inches long rule, phone is small for both work and home (nokia 1112) - not sure what the work one is

OP posted 2 leading questions, suprised he even had to ask a poll smile

I assume anyone against it who doesn't wear a jacket or combat trousers must be carrying a manbag. I'd rather be caught with a phone clipped to my belt than carrying a manbag.

As for putting it in normal trousers, personally I don't want to break it when I sit down or chip it with my keys.

I agree the the iPhone is big, and for that reason is likely to get damaged, and scratching a screen that size, which is the enitre user interface is going to be a real pisser.

But, that is no excuse for a belt holster...

biggrin

Get one of the many small leather pouches to slip it into and it will be fine. Careful which one you buy though, because some are truely shocking, and due the ammount of use it is going to get you want something of high quality, yet not to bulky and very tactile to the touch. I bought mine out of the O2 shop the phone came from after much touchy feeling of different models.
