It quotes the OP's opening statement in case they do a runner and try to hide the thread's original topic.
Such as some one admitting to sleeping with a Thai Lady Boy or owning a Caravan or having Ambliwans queriesbiggrin

Its a Service wink

I'm guessing quote the OP. I've never understood it either.

If quoting the OP is the most annoying thing on here for you I'd honestly be amazed

It's not the quoting but the first person to reply to quote when you can read above what's just been said.

The problem is that you may think you are going to be the first to reply you might actuall end up being 7th or 8th. It just depends on how many people reply at the same time.

Text doesn't annoy me but people quoting pictures strikes me as worse. Not sure I would make a thread about it though.

See the "Pam getting old" thread for an example.

O/T - Does opening such a thread as the Pam thread impact when using a phone/iphone for browsing etc.

it's not annoying me, I'm just tongue outuzzled: why the first person to answer does this? shirley lacking in the clever stuff :

What I find annoying is when people quote an answer that contains lots of photos so you have to scroll down through all the photes to get at the end something like 'nice pictures'

If the reply is an answer to the o/p then isn't it obvious the reply relates to the o/p? Posts don't go o/t in the opening posts...do they?

It does seem a bit idiotic when someone quotes say 10 paragraphs or maybe a load of pictures and then puts a short comment. Why not edit the quotation down a bit?

Some people simply know nothing more than pressing the quote button allows them to reply.

They have no idea how to use the 'quote' system, or how to quote a partial message, or multiple quotes, or how to use 'thumb' instead of 'img' to shrink a piccie they have quoted.

I have to say sometimes I'm left wondering which part of a message or multiple quote that someone is trying to emphasise.

i suppose it saves readers having to scroll back to the beginning to see the OP point. After 45 pages it does help a bit
