Quite an unusual one this, I was at a garden party over in Watton, south west of Norwich on Saturday night (18/7/09) and about 10pm we saw, what at first we thought were landing lights from a helicopter or aircraft, traveling West to East, But when they got over head, there was no noise & the light was above cloud level and going far to fast to have been an aircraft. Thought it may have been a Satellite, but it was far too bright and looked more like a ball of flame than your usual satellite, which looks like a moving star.
I commented that it may have just been a satellite catching the last rays of the sun.
Then about 5 minutes later we saw another identical object, travelling in the same direction on the same trajectory. About 2 minutes after that there was a third identicle light going at the same speed in the same direction.
It may well have been a satellite as I quite often look for them on clear nights, but seeing three in the space of less than 10 minutes all on the same path seemed very odd and they also looked far to low & bright.
Anyone else see anything in the sky saturday night or know what they may well have been ?
They were by far the brightest thing in the sky.

article somewhere I saw that this year has already been a record breaking year for UFOs. Probably true, especially when all that means is that we don't know what the flying object is. Not that everything we see in the sky is a potential alien spaceship.

Could the next light have been the shuttle? Not sure if it is attached still

No, the Shuttle docked on Friday and will remain attached for quite a few days.

Not sky lanterns. not street lights, not over indulgence in beer, wine or home made punch.

What ever they were they were travelling pretty fast, in a straight line, no noise or con-trails, no flashing marker lights and took only a few minutes to go from horizon to horizon ( give or take a few degrees)

There's a big battle area just up the road and they're probably testing tracer rounds of their new silent artillery shells. wink

I saw similar when camping at silverstone. The lights weren't high enough to be the ISS and definately weren't lanterns. Whilst there was no noise coming from them I put it down to be high altitude fighter jets as there is a few air bases down there

Did they dissapear before reaching the horizon? The ISS would probably have done.

The RAF camp has been flattened & is now a housing estate, Spent many happy years there with the Air Training Corps.
