EDF Power Failure - Dartford, Orpington, Bexleyheath
Discussion
Hi Folks
Just wondering if any PH'ers were suffering from the effects of the power failure in South East London/Kent borders?
Took a day off work yesterday and my electricity vanished at 12:50pm but came back on after 30 minutes. Back in work today and local lads and lasses are telling me they still have no electricity supply today.
So anyone else stocking up on candles?

Don't know much about it apart from the fact that it missed my house by circa 1 mile :smug:

This from the EDF web site:
"Power failure, Dartford area.
We're sorry some customers in the Dartford, Broadway, Crayford and Erith areas are still off supply since the fire causing major damage to our cables yesterday.
Our engineers are working continuously and although the main repair is complex and difficult they have made good progress with restoring some supplies overnight to parts of Erith and Broadway. These customers should not go off supply again.
Other parts of Erith, Broadway including Crayford will be connected throughout the day on a rota basis for periods of three hours to allow as many people as possible to have power at some point during the day.
Crayford has had supply on overnight but will go off at 09.00 today and on again after 6 hours this will continue until we make permanent repairs.
The following postcodes, all starting with DA will be on between 0900 and 12.00 and then on again 6 hours later until we complete repairs. The postcodes are DA 161/163/162/68/74/53/51/68/75/76/175/176/81.
The following postcodes, all starting with DA will be on between 12.00 and 15.00 then on again 6 hours later until we complete repairs. The postcodes are DA 163/161/75/51/53/52/67/74/16268/74 also SE20 and SE18 2.
We realise some postcodes do overlap.
We're sorry but customers in Dartford will be off until permanent repairs are made.
We will of course continue to work around the clock to complete permanent repairs. Thank you for your patience."
We missed it at work by a mile or so but our paint line which is in Erith is still out and have been told it could be as late as 2 tomorrow afternoon, a couple of the lads live in DA1 and apparently it's a nighmare (not the best of areas at normal times) but the few convienience stores that have stayed open have been getting robbed blind, the kids are just walking in helping themselves and running off knowing there are no CCTV cameras.

Nightmares! About to set off home to see if we have electricity still!
Apparently the affected substation (if that what it was), is now a crime scene and the leccy board aren't allowed to start repairs.
Considering (if they actually catch the little scroats) that the penalty in court for this will probably be 10hrs community service and £100 fine, it makes you wonder why they're so insistent on messing up so many people's lives for so long.

The local rumour grapevine and I stress RUMOUR is that one of the reasons that it's taking so long is that EDF haven't been allowed to repair the problem, because as said earlier it's being treated as a crime scene, however it appears that the thieving vest wearing caravan dwellers won't be looking at 100hrs community service as the fire that burnt out the wooden bridge below the main cable trunk line was started by the flammable nature of burning lead and copper stealing thief, that is atleast one and maybe two of them have pretty much disintigrated in a big flash high voltage/ high current meets pikey.
On the local news just now. A local women who lives next door to the bridge carrying the cables across the river/canal, was saying that local youths used the covered in section of the bridge as a camp/drugs-den. Busting off the locks to gain entry which are regularly being replaced by the electric board.
