FAO Londond Connoisseurs The Griffin or Browns?
Discussion
Hello,
I've been to the Griffin for research purposes a fair few times, however the area around there is a bit, well quiet, and it's a good 10-15 minute hike/stumble from Angel which is the nearest place for later opening pubs etc (unless I'm wrong?!).
So, as I've a few friends coming up at the end of the night for a bit of a lads night out (I live in Angel) I figured to try Browns. Having not been whats it like? I know that its the sister "establishment" to the mighty Griffin, but how does it compare?! Obviously it has the benefit of a few pubs/clubs close to it for afters!
Will be starting the evening at that amazing fish shop on goswell road...

Been to Browns, which is a handy location for all the bars & fun around Old St and Shoreditch High Street. Never been to the Griffin (I can never find it when I'm in Clerkenwell/Exmouth for some reason!), but for this place you pay a fiver or so to get in, and its a pound in the glass thereafter. Private "engagements" are available too.
It's not a luxury establishment, but tidy and relaxed enough as long as you keep the pound coins flowing so the doorstaff won't throw you out.

You have to pay to get in Browns? Terrible, haha!
I found the Griffin to be quite interesting for a pint inbetween pubs, just a bit of a mission to get to another pub/club after!
You are right about paying, it's just that the only memories of going there (and I have a few, just that they are all quite cloudy), is talking to the man sitting behind a little counter on the door on the way in, which makes me think some transaction is taking place. It might just be him saying "right sonny, you do know the score here, it's not a normal pub and you keep putting the pound coins in and there will be no trouble, ok?!"I found the Griffin to be quite interesting for a pint inbetween pubs, just a bit of a mission to get to another pub/club after!
And the mortgage reason is exactly why I don't go to Secrets.
