I've just done it 8 times in a row, changing numbers every time, and it got it right every bloody time. How is that possible?

I even resorted to mouse-overing the wrong squares, clicking different squares, picking a number in my head then changing before doing the maths so I wasn't taking any 'predictable' decisions etc (2 digit number between 1 and 50............ 37 anyone?)

I am irked.

look at the sequencing of the gift every time you pick a number

if you pick 19 you look at 9
if you pick 25 you look at 18
if you pick 56 you look at 45

the gift for each number is exactly the same

I posted this the other day and felt clever, (10A+B)-A-B = 9A so every answer will be an exact multiple of 9 and all of those boxes will contain the same item
