I keep getting emails asking me to join this - is it worth doing? TBH with PH, Facebook, work emails, personal emails, skype, messenger and god know how many other 'services' I am not sure I need another.

Any users here?

I use it a lot. Several times a day. It's the best way to keep track of peoples changing email addresses. I guess I add a couple of people a week, and I turn down a couple a month.

Am I on it? Yes.

Do I get involved? Yes - I run a group for SMEs in East Anglia

Have I ever got any work through it? No.

But I live in hope smile

As some of you are probably aware PistonHeads has its own "group" on Linked In. I use LinkedIn extensively (largely owing to the nature of my business) and it is very useful.

It seems to depend on what industry you are in, what country and what other existing networks there are for your field. Worth signing up but only really to keep up to date with existing contacts you have.

Its very popular out here in Asia, especially for recruiting and for cross referring with other contacts that you have ....

It certainly has not got me work, but it has helped in doing so.

People have recommended my business on it.

Have not got any work through it to date, so I can't say whether its useful or not.

However, since its free and I pay no attention to it unless I get emailed, nothing to lose really

Useful for contact from recruitment consultants and to see what ex-colleagues are doing. I don't actively participate in groups though, there are far too many with similar names.

When i worked for a headhunters we absolutley rinsed linked-in for contacts and names in target organisations.

To be fair, anyone I contacted I did so for the right reasons - niche role that would likely be of interest etc.

I found that most people were very receptive to a short but polite message through linkedin explaining why you would like to have a chat. Even if it went nowhere a good contact was made.

Now that i've left that game (thank god!) it's useful for my own benefit, keeping in touch with former colleagues, uni peeps, and also for getting contacts for current business.

I used to check it several times a day, now when its useful, perhaps once a week.

There's a ph group you say? scratchchin
