Me & my family stopped for a meal at a well known roadside restaurant today. The till receipt did not add up, but the staff were too stupid to work it out & wouldn't even discuss it.

I went home & phoned their HQ & they suggested that I drive back to the restaurant as they might refund the difference (£3.10) as a gesture of good will.....it would cost me more in diesel & I'm concerned that this is going on all over the country!

Erm, pretty much none of those figures work out. I'd be tempted to ask them to see which , if any, of those figures are accurate...

It’s £21.89 without the £3.95 saving. With the £3.95 saving it should be £17.94.

Where they got £21.04 from is anyone’s guess……

I would not have paid it got up and walked out, I'm sure then they may want to discuss it. Little Ripoff.

Pre-VAT it's "only" 36p out.

The goods = 17.94 with the discount, rather than 18.30.

In fact, even post-VAT it's only 36p.

Not 3.10.

It's the "GOODS B 15.00% * £18.30 £2.74" thing that adds up to £21.04, but what exactly that is I don't fully understand.

15% VAT on 18.30 = 2.74

Just that the 18.30 is slightly wrong in the first place. Rest of it's fine.

Err...ok. You're the one who couldn't add up a till receipt and asked other people for help.

Add up the goods, and it comes to 17.94 (including the discount of 3.95).

VAT @ 15% on 17.94 = 2.69

17.95 + 2.69 = 20.63

So yes, it's wrong, but not by 3.10.

Well surely that depends whether the itemised items are including VAT or not?

If they include VAT then the OP is owed £3.10 (£21.04-£17.94)

Surely the bigger question is "why the flip did you stop at a Little Chef"?

And also paid a bill which you suspected was wrong rather than make them sort it out and then came on here and cried about it

Given his propensity for acting like a child when someone tries to answer his question, I'm not in the least bit surprised.

Just had a quick look at the LC web site and their menu states that prices include VAT (although it doesn't say at what rate) so the Olympic Breakfast is £7.25 with VAT already on it....
