Hi-Vis watch....Keep a look out.
Discussion
It seems these days everybody is in possession of, and wears a high vis. I used to wear them all the time when working on site and got entirely used to it. Didn't notice I had the thing on half the time.
Nowadays I have a couple of the things for work (a sparkly yellow coat for winter and a funny jacket for hot weather).
However it is now the case that people working in jobs that do not require any type of visibility equipment are wearing them.
The shocking example occured just today. I was driving home along a busy-ish resdiential street. A middle-aged housewifey type was out doing her job and wearing a high vis jacket. What was her job?
Delivering leaflets! Yes really, the job entails walking along the pavement and posting leaflets advertising the local takeaway (or something) through doors. Essentially being a pedestrian and going for a short walk.
Why would anyone consider the need to be extremely visible whilst doing this? She was in company with a gaggle of others doing the same thing, none of them had safety gear on so it must have been personal choice rather than a company mandate.
HAs anyone else seen such gratuitous hi-vis wearing?

i like my guys to wear high vis vests.
lets me advertise the company name, and also helps complaints come to me rather than the client.
also, it helps residents of properties realise that the person walking up their drive/path isnt intent on robbing them or vandalising their property, and they will be on their way before they know it.
they also wear high vis newspaper delivery bags.
lol its like the blackpool lights when cars drive past us at night hehe

There were some people a while ago sat on camping chairs by the bus stop with clip boards for days on end. I have no idea what they were doing or why visibility is so important while sat under a bus shelter.
They were probably counting traffic, usually have little clickers for different vehicles and click it when one passes. As for why they had high vis on I have no idea.monthefish said:

I saw a woman walking her dog down the path in broad daylight today wearing a high-vis vest. Shocking!
I didn't know you could get them to fit dogs.
This is H&S Great Britain dontcha know?

Erm, don't they tend to be the preserve of Guide dogs? Guide dogs do tend to sport them, however I think other dogs are allowed to purchase them as well.

And, if a dog were to break away and run towards the road (which dogs have been known to do), then surely it's better to actually see them?
I think this is exactly what the OP is on about. In that case, perhaps we should fit them to all cats, rabbits, hedgehogs, badgers, deer etc etc. Where do you draw the line?HellDiver said:
I regularly wear a hi-vis coat. Why? Best bloody coat I've ever had, properly water proof, warm, and very easy to clean. Plus it was free, supplied by work.
Same here, although I've never actually worn mine at work; it stays in the boot of the car just in case. It's the warmest, driest coat I've ever had and If they're giving them away, it's rude not to.monthefish said:
