Childrens hospital
Discussion
Im currently sat in Leicester Royal Infirmary childrens ward. My 7month old son has been here since 3pm when he broke out in a rash whilst out in the city with my partner. In the 7hours he has been here, he has only had his eyes, ears, mouth examined, a urine sample taken, blood taken from both hands. Why so slow?? Luckily he is asleep at the mo.

Waiting for test results to come back? Drs won't want to proceed until they have an idea of what's the matter, so they'll try to find this out definitively first. Guesswork with young children tends to be a bit dangerous.Ask the on-call dr when they next come round, or ask someone to bleep them for you if you're really worried. They won't mind trying to explain things if you feel genuinely concerned. There'll be a paediatric registrar around who'll be able to answer your questions.
HTH and that things improve!
Finally got out of the hospital at midnight after the test results came back showing no abmornal anonimalies. So 9 hours to take a urine sample, check weight, temperature and a blood sample. My little boy had to undergo another round of blood taking this time by another doctor who stuck a canular into his left foot.
This morning he is happy and smily but still has this rash like appearance across his torso and abdomen.

Dude - I know exactly how you feel and how worried you are, but the reason they took so long is because they knew there wasn't anything desperate to worry about. Seriously, they know their stuff and would have rushed him in pronto if the appropriate warning signs are there. This morning he is happy and smily but still has this rash like appearance across his torso and abdomen.
Small comfort I know when your most precious thing is unwell etc. and all you can see is the suffering/discomfort but don't take it as a disinterest in your son - just a prioritisation of the other cases.
Glad to hear he's fundamentally well, though. The best outcome, no?
I know where your coming from. My little boy was rushed into A&E when he was 2 with suspected meningitis. The A&E dept at the John Radcliffe knew we were coming and they were amazing.
It all happened very fast but sounds similar to youre experience. Getting a line in for bloods was a nightmare.
When we finally had all the samples sent away and got him settled they had to do a lumbar puncture which was truly awfull, I had to walk out at that stage.
Luckily the tests were all clear and they never knew what it was. All his organs were given a clean bill of health and he was running a round the ward in no time. He still has one of the odd rash marks on his leg now (nearly 5yrs on).
Its at times like these that you realise how amazing the doctors and nurses really are. Hope everything is OK.

Agreed with all above.
Have they given you an idea of what the rash may be? what's it like? My son gets small rashes due to his excema, and he used to get heat rashes also. The weather has been changing a lot recently which can also cause rashes to occur on skin as sensitive as a babies.

As others have said, if the doctors don't look bothered, you shouldnt be worried. When they are frantic, then you need to panic.
Been in A&E a few times with my two (Sheffield Childrens) and they are simply superb.
Could it have been a reaction to something they ate or drank, any other symptoms?
Best of luck
