For months the site of the ILVA store on Gt. Ancoats Street in Manchester has been empty with the lights left on inside. I know ILVA went into liquidation some time ago...

However currently the site is being "worked on".
There are contractors on site with heavy plant during some internal works.

Does anyone know what the site is going to become, ie: residential, commercial or mixed use and if so could you give me any specifics as to "what" exactly?

I have already spoken to the guys on site and they would not identify who they work for, what was happening nor were there any obvious signs as to the developer's name.

Any info very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

scratchchin

Would the local planning office not be able to fill you in?

I'm not that big on planning applications in England, but up here an application would have to have been made to change or alter use of the building.

If there is a planning app for change of use then it will be viewable online at the appropriate local authorities website.

Can't imagine the site's worth much these days - no money in high rise residential. The Advent site flats are going for peanuts opposite at the auctions. I'd imagine they'll keep the retail consent and maybe try to subdivide. They could be trying to strip it out to avoid empty rates. It was always a very strange location for such a retailer.

Odds are it's going to be a LIDL. If you want more detail give Charles Hill at the Leeds office of Atisreal a call as they are the ones trying to fill it for Town Centre Securities who own the site.

What do you class as peanuts? We own some in there but not looked what they are selling for at minute.

Apartment 128 sold in September 08 at Auction for £75,000. It was in the Barnard Marcus auction yesterday with a guide of £65,000 and failed to sell.

Apparently, at least half of it is due to be an Aldi.

Oddly enough, the ILVA site at Thurrock in Essex was also emptied but almost all lights left on indefinitely. Haven't been through there for a while so I don't know current status, but I wonder who was paying the electricity bill - and why?

Did you see the feeding frenzy that ensued?

Actually they screwed us a bit on a sofa that was advertised at £350 one week, and then £700 the next. Pressed them but they would not budge but lo and behold, they went into administration about a month later (after we had grudgingly placed the order I might add).

Guess what? Yep. It was £350 again in the closing down sale.

I think they knew all only they were about to go under, the bastids rolleyes
