The BBC weather forecasts are a bit hit and miss, but today takes the biscuit.

The forecast for my local area has said, and is still insisting, still, that today would be and still is sunny with not a cloud in the sky. It's rained solidly since about 11am, no sign of it stopping yet.

Does no one check these things?

And on that note, can anyone suggest another user friendly site that does actually predict real weather?

Yesterday, the BBC front page said 'heavy rain' for Reading today.

When you went to the indepth forecast, it said sunny for all the sections of the day rolleyes

The more technology they add - the worse it is...

Metcheck here too, but still hit and miss these days.

WeatherPro app on the iPhone/Touch seems reasonable too. . .

Pendant corner .....

The BBC doesn't do weather forecasts, they are simply a delivery conduit for the Met Office.

Bit like saying that it's the Beeb's fault if the Grand Prix was a bit dull.

Also an app for the iphone/touch crowd. If so WHY is it more accurate?

What the BBC has on their website often doesn't match what the MET office site says, so I'd always assumed that they used something else.

Apparently it factors in altitude. I live 209 metres above sea level and for me at least it predicts rain and snowfall within the hour.

BBC site currently indicating we are receiving rain showers in Reading. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the radar shows no rain in the entire South of England.

I agree with the OP re the BBC's service which is as likely to be the complete opposite of what they forecast as anything else.

My favoured site is http://www.accuweather.com/ and I've found them to be very good. I particularly like their "hour by hour" service and the fact that they're reasonably accurate, even out to 2 weeks away.

^^^ I'd have to agree.

When programming work that is weather dependant, accuweather is the source of information I prefer.
